Dimethylsulfoniopropionate (DMSP) is an important organosulfur compound, with key roles in global carbon and sulfur cycling, stress tolerance, chemotaxis, and, potentially, climate regulation. The strain Vibrio sp. D3 was isolated from the surface seawater samples in Qingdao coastal area, which could grow on DMSP as sole carbon source.

This paper explores the use of hypnosis in tracing the etiology of Conversion Disorder (CD) in adolescents through hypnoanalysis, as well as outlining a structured workflow for hypnotherapy. A 16-year-old female high school student, who experienced sensations of earthquakes at any time and was unable to lie down to sleep, underwent multiple physical examinations across various hospitals without any identified cause. Conventional treatments with both Chinese and Western medicine were ineffective over a six-month period.

Introduction: The aim of the study was to investigate how adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells regulate the balance between regulatory T (Treg) cells and Th17 cells through the IL-2/JAK-3/STAT-5 signaling pathway in a rat model of allergic rhinitis (AR).

Methods: Adipose-derived stem cells (ADSCs) were used to treat an ovalbumin (OVA)-induced AR rat model. The pathological changes and nasal symptoms were observed by HE staining and scanning electron microscopy.

Prioritizing defense over growth often occurs under ultraviolet (UV)-B radiation while several studies showed its growth-promoting effects on photosynthetic organisms, how they overcome the growth-defense trade-off is unclear. This study deciphered the acclimation responses of the cyanobacterium Nostoc sphaeroides to low UV-B radiation (0.08 W m) using quantitative proteomic, physiological and biochemical analyses.

Artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) are driving innovation in biosciences and are already affecting key elements of medical scholarship and clinical care. Many schools of medicine are capitalizing on the promise of these new technologies by establishing academic units to catalyze and grow research and innovation in AI/ML. At Stanford University, we have developed a successful model for an AI/ML research center with support from academic leaders, clinical departments, extramural grants, and industry partners.

Morphological studies of the proboscis can provide valuable insights into the evolutionary adaptations of Lepidoptera. However, such research is relatively limited for Pieridae, a family that is significant both ecologically and economically. In this study, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was employed to investigate the proboscis and associated sensilla of adult , with an emphasis on ultrastructural details and potential sex-specific differences.

Phase gradient photonic crystals (PGPCs) are proposed as promising candidates for phase manipulation and can enable arbitrary electromagnetic functions, such as deflection and focusing. In stark contrast to the proposed metasurfaces, the phase variation in PGPCs arises from simple edge-configuration rather than structure resonance. Moreover, the reflection magnitude maintains a constant of 1 for the reflective case in the Bragg gap, which affords significant convenience in design.

Unlabelled: oil (CSO) and oil (SZSO) are functional oils that have beneficial effects on brain health. This study evaluated the sedative and hypnotic effects of vegetable oils with various n - 6/n - 3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) ratios and ɑ-linolenic acid (ALA) contents to mice. The n - 6/n - 3 PUFA ratios of CSO (CSO:SZSO = 1:0, 1.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are closely associated with cancer and have been considered cancer biomarkers. Herein, we propose an electrochemiluminescence (ECL) biosensor for detecting miRNA-21 based on target-induced catalytic hairpin self-assembly (CHA) and CuO-mediated azide-alkyne cycloaddition. Two hairpin DNAs were employed: one was immobilized on magnetic beads (HP2) and another was labeled with CuO (HP1-CuO).

In this study, the gut microbial and cellulose digestibility dynamics of were jointly analyzed using high-throughput sequencing and anthrone colorimetry. The results showed that the gut microbial diversity and cellulose digestibility across life stages were dynamically changing.

Background: Recently, observational studies have reported that gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is commonly associated with irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), but the causal relationship is unclear.

Methods: We conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomization study using summary data from genome-wide association studies (GWASs) to explore a causal relationship between GERD (N cases = 129,080) and IBS (N cases = 4,605) of European ancestry. Furthermore, the inverse-variance weighted (IVW) method and a series of sensitivity analyses were used to assess the accuracy and confidence of our results.

Background: Vulnerable plaque was associated with recurrent cardiovascular events. This study was designed to explore predictive biomarkers of vulnerable plaque in patients with coronary artery disease.

Methods: To reveal the phenotype-associated cell type in the development of vulnerable plaque and to identify hub gene for pathological process, we combined single-cell RNA and bulk RNA sequencing datasets of human atherosclerotic plaques using Single-Cell Identification of Subpopulations with Bulk Sample Phenotype Correlation (Scissor) and Weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA).

Insect gut bacteria play an essential role in the nutritional metabolism, growth, and development of insects. Grasshoppers (Orthoptera) are cellulose-rich plant-feeding pests. Although the biological potential of grasshopper gut microorganisms to assist cellulose decomposition is well established, microbial resources for efficient degradation of cellulose biomass are still scarce and need to be developed.

Compared with single signal detection, a ratiometric biosensor could offer more accurate and reliable results. Here, a ratiometric electrochemical biosensor for the sensitive and accurate detection of dopamine was developed based on the strong adsorption ability of MXene-Au toward methylene blue, an inner reference element. This ratiometric sensing strategy opened up a new avenue for the development of a ratiometric platform.

Background: α-Glucosidase (AG) is a bifunctional enzyme, it has a capacity to synthesize 2-O-α-d-glucopyranosyl-l-ascorbic acid (AA-2G) from l-ascorbic acid (L-AA) and low-cost maltose under mild conditions, but it can also hydrolyze AA-2G, which leads to low synthesis efficiency of AA-2G.

Main Methods And Major Results: This study introduces a rational molecular design strategy to regulate enzymatic reactions based on inhibiting the formation of ground state of enzyme-substrate complex. Y215 was analyzed as the key amino acid site affecting the affinity of AG to AA-2G and L-AA.

Federated learning is an emerging research paradigm enabling collaborative training of machine learning models among different organizations while keeping data private at each institution. Despite recent progress, there remain fundamental challenges such as the lack of convergence and the potential for catastrophic forgetting across real-world heterogeneous devices. In this paper, we demonstrate that self-attention-based architectures (e.

Background This study aimed to explore predictive biomarkers of coronary collateralization in patients with chronic total occlusion. Methods and Results By using a microarray expression profiling program downloaded from the Gene Expression Omnibus database, weighted gene coexpression network analysis was constructed to analyze the relationship between potential modules and coronary collateralization and screen out the hub genes. Then, the hub gene was identified and validated in an independent cohort of patients (including 299 patients with good arteriogenic responders and 223 patients with poor arteriogenic responders).

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurological disorder that has a variety of observable motor-related symptoms such as slow movement, tremor, muscular rigidity, and impaired posture. PD is typically diagnosed by evaluating the severity of motor impairments according to scoring systems such as the Movement Disorder Society Unified Parkinson's Disease Rating Scale (MDS-UPDRS). Automated severity prediction using video recordings of individuals provides a promising route for non-intrusive monitoring of motor impairments.
