Background: Recent research suggests that periodontitis can increase the risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). In this study, we performed two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) and investigated the causal effect of periodontitis (PD) on the genetic prediction of COPD. The study aimed to estimate how exposures affected outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • - Previous studies suggested a link between periodontitis (PD) and migraines, but the relationship was uncertain; this research used Mendelian randomization (MR) to clarify if one causes the other.
  • - The study analyzed data from a large population, including 17,353 PD cases and over 360,000 migraine controls, using genetic markers to assess causality.
  • - Results showed no significant causal relationship between PD and migraines, indicating that neither condition influences the other in the population studied.

We examined the impacts of slope direction and position on the community structure and species diversity of shrub community in Jiajin Mountains. The results showed that a total of 186 vascular plant species belonging to 50 families and 127 genera were recorded in the 24 sample plots. 32 species belonging to 14 families, 22 genera were recorded in the shrubs layer, with most species distributed at lower position of the shady slope.

Background: Oral microbiota is not only important for maintaining oral health but also plays a role in various oral diseases. However, studies regarding microbiome changes in oral lichen planus (OLP) are very limited. To the best of our knowledge, there has been only two studies investigating salivary microbiome changes in OLP.

Article Synopsis
  • Lymphomas are categorized into Hodgkin's lymphoma and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), with NHL being a diverse type of hematological cancer that ranges from slow-growing to aggressive forms.
  • Advances in understanding NHL's causes have enhanced diagnosis precision and prognosis evaluation, focusing on factors like chromosomal translocations and the loss of tumor suppressor genes.
  • Additionally, epigenetic changes, including DNA methylation and histone modifications, increasingly play a vital role in diagnosing and determining treatment outcomes for NHL patients.

Article Synopsis
  • Biopsy is crucial for diagnosing oral lichen planus (OLP) on the lips, and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) shows promise as a safe treatment option.
  • A 38-year-old female patient with long-term symptoms of recurrent erosion and pain on her lower lip was diagnosed with erosive OLP.
  • After 4 months of TCM treatment combined with hormones and anti-inflammatory methods, significant improvement was observed, with no recurrence in the 5-month follow-up, highlighting the effectiveness of this approach for OLP.

Mutations in the transmembrane receptor patched homolog 1 (Homo sapiens) (ptch1) are responsible for nevoid basal cell carcinoma syndrome (NBCCS), an autosomal dominant disorder that causes developmental abnormalities and predisposes the affected individuals to cancer. Many of these mutations, including mutations in the C-terminus of the large intracellular loop (ICL) of ptch1 (p.C727VfsX745 and p.

Objective: To determine the sequence of the active peptide derived from recombinant hemagglutinin (rHA-2) of Porphyromonas gingivalis (Pg).

Methods: The HA-2 gene from PgATCC33277 was cloned, expressed in Escherichia coli (Ec) BL21 (DE3), and purified. The purified recombinant protein was evaluated for its ability to bind hemin-linked agarose.
