Purple phototrophic bacteria produce two kinds of light-harvesting complexes that function to capture and transmit solar energy: the core antenna (LH1) and the peripheral antenna (LH2). The apoproteins of these antennas, encoded respectively by the genes pufBA and pucBA within and outside the photosynthetic gene cluster, respectively, exhibit conserved amino acid sequences and structural topologies suggesting they were derived from a shared ancestor. Here we present the structures of two photosynthetic complexes from Roseospirillum (Rss.

Background: CDK4/6 inhibitors are highly valued, but the incidence of cardiovascular adverse events (CVAEs) associated with CDK4/6 inhibitors is not clear.

Objective: Our aim was therefore to assess the risk of developing CVAEs associated with CDK4/6 inhibitors, by conducting a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials (RCTs), along with a pharmacovigilance study of the FDA Adverse Event Reporting System (FAERS) database.

Methods: Eligible CVAEs were extracted from the ClinicalTrials.

Although plant evolution has offered diverse biomass resources, the production of high-quality biochar from desirable lignocelluloses remains unexplored. In this study, distinct lignocellulose substrates derived from eight representative plant species were employed to prepare biochar samples under three different temperature treatments. Correlation analysis showed that only hemicellulose was a consistently positive factor of lignocellulose substrates to account for the dye-adsorption capacities of diverse biochar samples.

The regulation and maintenance of immune homeostasis are essential for animal survival, but the molecular mechanisms are not fully understood. Here, we used the model organism Drosophila melanogaster to uncover a potential mechanism by which the nuclear factor-κB transcription factor Relish and miR-100 cooperatively regulate innate immune homeostasis. We first demonstrated in vitro and in vivo that miR-100 can negatively regulate the immune responses of the Imd pathway by inhibiting the expression of TAK1-associated binding protein 2 (Tab2) gene.

Rapid detection of NO -N is critical to address the challenges of food security, environmental degradation, and climate change. Conventional methods for sensing NO -N in water demand pretreatments and chemical reagents, which are time- and cost-consuming. Consequently, Fourier transform infrared attenuated total reflectance (FTIR-ATR) spectroscopy has been well applied for the determination of NO -N.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed data from 1071 metastatic breast cancer patients to explore the characteristics and treatment impacts of those with HER2-low status, emphasizing the need for improved clinical guidance in this population.
  • Key mutations found in HER2-low patients include TP53, PIK3CA, and ESR1, which are linked to metabolic changes and could influence treatment responses.
  • Results indicate that while HER2-low and HER2-0 patients generally respond similarly to standard treatments, those with specific genetic mutations may benefit more from personalized approaches, supporting the development of tailored treatment strategies based on tumor characteristics.

In many applications, there is a need for algorithms that can align partially overlapping point clouds while remaining invariant to corresponding transformations. This research presents a method that achieves these goals by minimizing a binary linear assignment-least squares (BLALS) energy function. First, we reformulate the BLALS problem as the minimization of a quadratic function with quadratic and linear constraints through variable substitution.

  • - Loss-of-function studies reveal that T cell factor-1 (TCF1) is crucial for T cell development in the thymus, and its expression is regulated by E box DNA binding proteins independently of Notch signaling.
  • - Systematic analysis of five E protein binding elements (EPE1-5) shows that EPE3 is vital for αβ T cell development, while EPE1, 3, and 5 are important for γδ T cell maturation and fate decisions.
  • - The balanced expression of TCF1, influenced by specific EPEs, is essential for generating the appropriate number of T cells in the thymus.

Background: The association between physical activity (PA) and cognitive function remains controversial, and the impact of gender on this association remains underexplored. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the association between PA and cognitive function and to explore whether this association was modified by gender among older adults.

Methods: In 2016, a cluster sampling method was used to select community-dwelling older adults aged 65 and above.

Excessive autophagy has been implicated in the pathogenesis of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), yet the molecular underpinnings of the autophagy-lysosomal pathway (ALP) in NEC are not well characterized. This study aimed to elucidate alterations within the ALP in NEC by employing RNA sequencing on intestinal tissues obtained from affected infants. Concurrently, we established animal and cellular models of NEC to assess the therapeutic efficacy of itaconic acid (ITA).

Flap endonuclease 1 (FEN1) is a structure-specific DNA repair enzyme that has emerged as a potential target for cancer diagnosis and treatment. However, existing FEN1 assays often suffer from complicated reaction schemes and laborious procedures, and only a few methods are available for the detection and imaging of FEN1 in living cells. Especially, FEN1 is not exclusive to cancer cells, but it is also shared by normal cells.

Background: Everolimus is beneficial for patients with hormone receptor-positive and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2-negative (HR+/HER2-) advanced breast cancer (ABC). However, some patients developed drug resistance and the well-established predictor for everolimus efficacy was limited.

Objectives: The study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of everolimus in different treatment lines and identify several clinicopathological markers to estimate everolimus efficacy in patients with HR+/HER2- ABC.

Background: Repeated intravesical activation of protease-activated receptor-4 (PAR4) serves as a model of persistent bladder hyperalgesia (BHA) in mice, which lasts several days after the final stimulus. Spinal macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) and high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) are critical mediators in the persistence of BHA.

Objective: We aimed to identify effective systemic treatments for persistent BHA using antagonists or transgenic deletions.

Due to their excellent properties, blue CsPbBr quantum dots show great promise for full-colour display and lighting applications. This study used acetonitrile, a polar solvent, to post-treat CsPbBr quantum dots, resulting in a blue shift to 453 nm. To enhance stability, these quantum dots were encapsulated within the pore structure of mesoporous silica.

Automatic segmentation of blood vessels in fundus images is important to assist ophthalmologists in diagnosis. However, automatic segmentation for Optical Coherence Tomography Angiography (OCTA) blood vessels has not been fully investigated due to various difficulties, such as vessel complexity. In addition, there are only a few publicly available OCTA image data sets for training and validating segmentation algorithms.

Background: The selection of appropriate chemotherapy backbone agents in combination with neoadjuvant immunotherapy for triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) remains unclear. Herein, we aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of anthracycline-free and anthracycline-containing regimens coupled with neoadjuvant immunotherapy.

Method: This retrospective study included 87 patients with TBNC who received neoadjuvant immunotherapy combined with various chemotherapy regimens at three research centers from November 2020 to November 2023.

Quick and easy synthetic methods and highly efficient catalytic performance are equally important to anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) electrocatalysts for alkaline seawater electrolysis. Herein, we report a facile one-step route to in situ growing PO intercalated NiFe layered double hydroxides (NiFe-LDH) on Ni foam (denoted as NiFe-P/NF) by a room-temperature immersion for several minutes. This ultrafast approach transforms the NF surface into a rough PO intercalated NiFe-LDH overlayer, which demonstrates outstanding OER performance in both alkaline simulated and natural seawaters owing to good hydrophilic interface and the electrostatic repulsion of PO against Cl anions.
