Modulation of coordination configuration is crucial for boosting the biomimetic catalytic activity of nanozymes, but remains challenging. Here, we found that the non-first-shell amino group in the ligand was capable of steering the N/S coordination number through remote induction to enable the formation of a low-coordinated CuNS configuration. This endowed the resulting nanozyme (ATT-Cu) with an upshifted d-band center compared with a control nanozyme (TT-Cu) with CuNS configuration, enhancing the adsorption capabilities of ATT-Cu for O and HO intermediates as well as its affinity for catechol.

Article Synopsis
  • - The flower of Gomphrena globosa (G. globosa) is recognized in traditional Chinese medicine for its potential liver-protective properties, particularly through its polysaccharide components that may combat fatty liver and hepatitis.
  • - Researchers isolated a specific polysaccharide called GGL0.05S1 from G. globosa, which was found to inhibit fat accumulation and oxidative stress in liver cells, showing effectiveness in preventing liver damage in animal models.
  • - The mechanism behind GGL0.05S1's protective effects involves enhancing the antioxidant capacity of the thioredoxin protein, promoting fat oxidation and cellular cleanup processes, while also reducing inflammation through the inhibition of the NLRP3 signaling pathway.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are widespread, highly persistent, and bio-accumulative compounds that are increasingly found in the sediments of aquatic systems. Given this accumulation and concerns regarding the environmental impacts of PFAS, their influence on sedimentary bacterial communities remains inadequately studied. Here, we investigated the concentrations of 17 PFAS in sediments from six urban lakes in Nanjing, China, and assessed their effects on the diversity, composition, potential interactions, and assembly mechanisms of sedimentary bacterial communities.
