Purpose: Clinicians monitor scoliosis progression using multiple radiographs during growth. During imaging, arms must be elevated to visualize vertebrae, possibly affecting sagittal alignment. This study aimed to determine the arm position that best represents habitual standing (and possibly allowing hand-based skeletal maturity assessment) to obtain frontal and lateral stereo-radiographs as measured using frontal, sagittal, and transverse angles.

Objective: To examine the correlations between obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and psychiatric disorders such as major depressive disorder (MDD), posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), or bipolar disorder (BD) and whether comorbid psychiatric diagnosis increases the risk of OSA.

Methods: This retrospective chart review study included all patients (N = 413) seen within a randomly selected 4-month period (August 2014 to November 2014) in a Veterans Administration outpatient psychiatry clinic. Patients were screened for symptoms of OSA with the STOP-BANG Questionnaire.

Low doses of clozapine may stabilize treatment-resistant bipolar patients.

Open, uncontrolled studies suggest clozapine can have mood-stabilizing effects in treatment-resistant bipolar disorder. Unfortunately, the side effect profile limits clozapine's use at high doses. We report a series of nine bipolar I disorder patients who improved on relatively low doses of clozapine add-on therapy (250 mg or lower).

Our results show that alpha beta TCR-bearing T cells of both the CD4+ and CD8+ subtypes from lymph nodes of DNFB-skin-painted mice proliferate specifically to dinitrobenzene sulfonate (DNBS) in vitro. Four DNP-specific, CD4+ T-cell clones were characterized: clone 5S4 secreted IL-4 and required Il-4 for optimal growth; clone 5S10 secreted IL-2 and required IL-2 for optimal growth; clone 5S2 secreted IL-4 but required IL-2 for optimal growth; and clone 5S8 secreted IL-2 predominantly at 5 months, but switched to production of IL-4 at 7 months.

Self-esteem and perceptions of conveyed impressions: is negative affectivity associated with greater realism?

Two studies examined the notion that negative affectivity (Watson & Clark, 1984) is associated with more accurate perceptions of conveyed impressions in social interactions. In Study 1 (n = 160), low self-esteem (LSE) and high self-esteem (HSE) subjects were paired with either an LSE or an HSE partner. After a 15-min interaction, they rated themselves, their partners, and how they believed their partners would rate them on 20 adjectives related to social competence.

Circulatory effects of atracurium in patients with cardiovascular disease.

Experimentally induced supersensitivity of neocortical neurons to microiontophoretically administered serotonin.

Central serotonergic fiber systems of the rat were selectively lesioned by intraventricular injection of the neurotoxin 5,7-dihydroxytryptamine (5,7-DHT). At various times thereafter, the sensitivity of rostral cortical neurons to microiontophoretically administered serotonin (5-HT) was compared in groups of lesioned and sham-operated animals pretreated with the 5-HT uptake inhibitor CGP 6085. Twenty-four hours after the injection of 5,7-DHT, at which time the cortical 5-HT and 5-hydroxyindoleacetic acid (5-HIAA) levels were both reduced by 40%, there was no significant difference in the sensitivity of cortical neurons to 5-HT.
