Second harmonic generation in monolithic gallium phosphide metasurfaces.

Gallium phosphide (GaP) offers unique opportunities for nonlinear and quantum nanophotonics due to its wide optical transparency range, high second-order nonlinear susceptibility, and the possibility to tailor the nonlinear response by a suitable choice of crystal orientation. However, the availability of single crystalline thin films of GaP on low index substrates, as typically required for nonlinear dielectric metasurfaces, is limited. Here we designed and experimentally realized monolithic GaP metasurfaces for enhanced and tailored second harmonic generation (SHG).

Observation of the Wannier-Stark ladder in plasmonic waveguide arrays.

Evanescently coupled waveguides are a powerful platform to study and visualize the wave dynamics in tight-binding systems. Here, we investigate the propagation of surface plasmon polaritons in arrays of dielectric loaded surface plasmon polariton waveguides with a propagation constant gradient acting as an effective external potential. Using leakage radiation microscopy, we observe in real-space for single site excitation a periodic breathing of the wave packet and an oscillatory motion in the case of Gaussian excitation of multiple waveguides.

Effects of Saccharides Supplementation in the Extender of Cryopreserved Rooster () Semen on the Fertility of Frozen/Thawed Spermatozoa.

The aim of this study was to create balanced media for the cryopreservation of rooster semen in pellets to maintain the functional state of the sperm after thawing. Fructose was replaced by trehalose in experimental media in proportions of 10% (LCM-T10) and 20% (LCM-T20), while LCM was used as a control. After artificial insemination of the hens, the eggs were incubated (n = 400).

Observation of topological transport quantization by dissipation in fast Thouless pumps.

Quantized dynamics is essential for natural processes and technological applications alike. The work of Thouless on quantized particle transport in slowly varying potentials (Thouless pumping) has played a key role in understanding that such quantization may be caused not only by discrete eigenvalues of a quantum system, but also by invariants associated with the nontrivial topology of the Hamiltonian parameter space. Since its discovery, quantized Thouless pumping has been believed to be restricted to the limit of slow driving, a fundamental obstacle for experimental applications.

Aim: Detection of circulation of West Nile virus (WNV) on the territory of Saratov Region and prerequisites for formation of natural focus of West Nile fever (WNF), determination of the role of WNV in infectious pathology on the territory of the region.

Apathogenic Shigella flexneri 5a2c mutant treated with furazolidone can infect eucaryotic cells. These bacteria contain no virulence genes responsible for Sh. flexneri invasion, which seems to be the cause of their apathogenicity.

Effects of some cytoskeleton inhibitors on ooplasmic segregation in the Nereis virens egg.

The ooplasmic segregation in the Nereis virens egg starts after completion of cortical reaction. During ooplasmic segregation the radial symmetrical pattern of the oocyte transforms into polarized stratified structure with different kinds of cytoplasm regularly distributed along the animal-vegetal axis. The beginning of oocyte polarization is associated with the generation of the mitotic spindle and is sensitive to microtubule inhibitors.

[A new method for evaluating the rheological properties of the erythrocytes in surgical patients with endogenous intoxication].

An examination of 30 patients against the background of using both the operative and conservative methods of treatment was performed in order to study the rheological properties of blood and selection of the most informative tests for diagnosis of microcirculatory disturbances in diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and gastroduodenal area. The authors propose methods of investigation of deformability and viscosity of erythrocytes in patients with the surgical diseases in question. The methods are simple, quite handy for any surgical hospital and polyclinic laboratories.

[Experience in using regression analysis for assessing the quality of the diagnosis of hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome].

A new approach has been developed to evaluate the adequacy of HFRS clinical diagnosis, by using regression analysis of large selections. The HFRS morbidity rate and the antibody prevalence rate in man were viewed as a function and an argument of the function, respectively. An empiric model for one of the active HFRS endemic area (Saratov Province), characterizing the correlation between the immunity and morbidity rates has been elaborated.

[Methodological approaches to the evaluation of medical-economic standards and possibilities of their utilization in health care].

Medicoeconomic standards (MES) became very popular in many regions of Russia as a unit for assessing the monetary relationships between hospitals and insurance companies within the framework of obligatory medical insurance. However, rather often the standards are introduced by voluntary solutions without due consideration for the specific features of a territory, this involving the risk of a formalistic approach to the use of MES. Regulations have been designed for the experiment on comparison of the medical standards which have been approved and the actual treatment technology in the hospitals of Moscow (actual volumes, bed-days, and cost of treatment).

[Hemodilution coagulopathy and infusion-transfusion therapy of massive hemorrhage in obstetric practice].

The paper presents the experience gained by a critical hematological care team in diagnosis and treatment of hemodilution coagulopathy. The investigations were performed in Leningrad obstetric hospitals in 1985-1990 and included 38 patients. Basic principles of the therapy and its control are described.

[L-transforming effect of biseptol on cells of Shigella sonnei and flexneri].

Possible L-transformation of Shigella under the action of biseptol on an artificial nutrient medium was investigated. The L-forms were isolated from 6 out of 35 cultures. By the morphological properties the isolates were similar to the L-forms of Shigella flexneri induced by furazolidone.

[Rheologic properties of erythrocytes of the hemostatic system in patients with acute lymphoblastic leukemia].

Disturbed erythrocytic rheology revealed in ALL patients with hypocoagulative shifts is suggested to trigger DIC syndrome. Combined treatment enhanced erythrocytic aggregation, viscosity and reduced deformability. Nevertheless, the patients improved, hemorrhagic complications attenuated, hemostasis underwent positive changes.

[Rheologic and coagulational disorders and their correction with heparin in patients with autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura treated with antilymphocytic globulin].

Rheologic and hemocoagulation parameters were studied in 26 patients with autoimmune thrombocytopenic purpura (AITP). It has been shown that disorders in red blood cell rheologic properties detected in these patients aggravate the hemostasis disturbances and promote the development of disseminated intravascular blood coagulation (DIVBC). After infusion of antilymphocytic globulin (ALG) to 20 AITP patients improvement of general condition, as well as positive changes in the rheologic and hemocoagulation parameters were recorded in 15 of them.

[The effect of specific transfusion therapy on the level of circulating immune complexes in hemophilia patients].

The level of circulating immune complexes (CIC) was measured in 108 hemophilic patients registered at the Republican Center for Hemophilia Treatment. High levels of CIC were detected in hemophilic patients of different age. The concentrations of CIC were higher in adult patients than in children.

[Detection of protease specifically splitting actin in revertants of Shigella flexneri L-forms].

Proteolytic activity of cell extracts from revertants of Shigella flexneri L-forms as well as biochemical properties of these strains and their sensitivity to antibiotics were studied. The protease found earlier in cells of strain E. coli A2 was shown to be synthesized by one of 8 revertants under study.
