Coat proteins (CP) of the potato virus A virions (PVA) contain partially disordered N-terminal domains, which are necessary for performing vital functions of the virus. Comparative analysis of the structures of coat proteins (CPs) in the intact PVA virions and in the virus particles lacking N-terminal 32 amino acids (PVAΔ32) was carried out in this work based on the tritium planigraphy data. Using atomic-resolution structure of the potato virus Y potyvirus (PVY) protein, which is a homolog of the CP PVA, the available CP surfaces in the PVY virion were calculated and the areas of intersubunit/interhelix contacts were determined.

One of the critical stages of the T-cell immune response is the dimerization of the intramembrane domains of T-cell receptors (TCR). Structural similarities between the immunosuppressive domains of viral proteins and the transmembrane domains of TCR have led several authors to hypothesize the mechanism of immune response suppression by highly pathogenic viruses: viral proteins embed themselves in the membrane and act on the intramembrane domain of the TCRalpha subunit, hindering its functional oligomerization. It has also been suggested that this mechanism is used by influenza A virus in NS1-mediated immunosuppression.

The effects of a lithium-modified sorbent based on aluminum oxide and polydimethylsiloxane (AlO@PDMS/Li) and a lithium-free sorbent (AlO@PDMS) on some indicators characterizing blood clotting under hemosorption conditions were compared in vitro. Sorbent AlO@PDMS/Li had significantly lower reactogenic effect on the blood passed through the column than the sorbent without lithium. This was seen from the degree of platelet reduction (66×10 vs 19×10/liter) as well as a less pronounced hypercoagulation shift in chronometric indicators.

A new species of (), described herein as , was recovered in the field on ground litter from mountain subtropical forests (Phia Oắc - Phia Đén National Park) of northern Vietnam. Morphological details were examined by light and scanning electron microscopy. However, limited effort has been made to identify emergence of new RSV genotypes' frequency of infection and how the combination of nasopharyngeal microbiome and viral genotypes impact RSV disease outcomes. In an observational cohort designed to capture the first infant RSV infection, we employed multi-omics approaches to sequence 349 RSV complete genomes and matched nasopharyngeal microbiomes, during which the 2012/2013 season was dominated by RSV-A, whereas 2013 and 2014 was dominated by RSV-B.

The invasion and integrin-dependent adhesion of neutrophils to lung tissues and their secretion lead to the development of pneumonia in various pulmonary pathologies, including acute respiratory distress syndrome in coronavirus disease. We studied the effect of ivermectin, a possible therapeutic agent for inflammation and cancer, on integrin-dependent neutrophil adhesion to fibronectin and the concomitant secretion. Ivermectin did not affect the attachment of neutrophils to the substrate and the reactive oxygen species production but sharply inhibited the adhesion-induced release of hydroxylysine and stimulated the release of phenylalanine and cathepsin G.

Hypochlorous acid (HOCl) derived from hydrogen peroxide and chloride anion by myeloperoxidase (MPO) plays a significant role in physiological and pathological processes. Herein we report a phenoxazine-based fluorescent probe Celestine Blue B (CB) that is applicable for HOCl detection in living cells and for assaying the chlorinating activity of MPO. A remarkable selectivity and sensitivity (limit of detection is 32 nM), along with a rapid "turn-on" response of CB to HOCl was demonstrated.

The work is devoted to the study of the structural characteristics of the myeloperoxidase-ceruloplasmin-thrombin complex using small-angle neutron scattering methods in combination with computer modeling, as well as surface plasmon resonance and solid-phase enzyme assay. We have previously shown that the functioning of active myeloperoxidase during inflammation, despite the presence in the blood of an excess of ceruloplasmin which inhibits its activity, is possible due to the partial proteolysis of ceruloplasmin by thrombin. In this study, the myeloperoxidase-ceruloplasmin-thrombin heterohexamer was obtained in vitro.
