The study was concerned with the analysis of peculiarities of pathomorphism development in osteogenic sarcoma under different therapeutic modalities. Material was obtained from 229 cases of tumor treated within 1955-1981. Electron microscopic examination of tumor was performed in 20 patients who had had no preoperative treatment and in 3 patients who had received adriamycin intraarterially and distant 60Co teletherapy (total focal dose 36 Gy) prior to surgery.

It was demonstrated with the use of the immunological tests that in acute posthemorrhagic anemias, the blood chalone content was low whereas in anemias of the leukemic origin it was elevated. In secondary erythrocytis, the chalone titre rose to a greater degree than in polycythemia vera. The testing of chalone blood factors may play a role in differential diagnosis of some types of erythropoiesis abnormalities.

Normal tissues of DBA, CBA, CC57W, C3H, Balb/c, SHR mice and F1 hybrids CC57W/DBA appeared to differ in the ratios of mitochondrial and supernatant NADP-dependent isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH). Tested inbred mice strains CC57W, C3H, SHR, Balb/c contain allelic form Idh-1a of supernatant IDH gene Idh-1, whereas allelic form Idh-1b is characteristic of mice strains DBA and CBA. In tumors IDH isozymes have the same mobility as do isozymes of homologous normal tissues; but their activity is lower.

The antihistaminic drug dimebon was subjected to toxicological study. It was demonstrated that as regards the level of the mean lethal doses dimebon can be attributed to little toxic substances. Administration of the drug in the doses approximating the therapeutic ones (1 and 5 mg/kg) for 2 months did not produce any alterations in rats, guinea-pigs or dogs.

Polarized Raman spectra of bone tissue were obtained as well as of collagen fibres of the mouse tail tendon and oxyapatite crystals. It is shown that polarized Raman spectra permit to obtain information on spatial orientation of collagen fibres and oxyapatite microcrystals in various parts of the bone tissue. A laser Raman microprobe "Mole" was used to take Raman spectra measurements from the area of several square micrones.

Adriamycin was administered intraarterially and the tumor was irradiated at a total focal dose of 3600 rad in the preoperational period in 25 children suffering from osteogenic sarcoma. Histological examinations of the tumors revealed marked necrobiotic, necrotic and sclerotic changes. Within 2 months after the beginning of the therapy the number of tumor cells decreased, they were localized predominantly in the peripheral parts of the extraosseal component.

The first generation progeny of rats received days 10-13 of pregnancy a new antiviral drug bonaphthon (400 mg/kg) which exerts a toxic effect on females. The progeny did not show postnatal death or reduction of the life span. Moreover, no impairment of muscle work capacity, basal metabolism, cardiovascular system, peripheral blood parameters, or changes in the function of organs and systems were recorded.

The toxicity of the original drug bonaphthon was studied in pregnant and nonpregnant mice and rats given the drug orally and intraperitoneally. In a dose of 100 mg/kg bonaphthon had no toxic effect on pregnant rats after 4-time administration per os, while in a single dose of 400 mg/kg the drug elicited side effects such as congestion phenomena and inconsistent dystrophic changes in the parenchymal organs. Toxic effects in the liver were most pronounced when the drug was administered in the earlier periods of pregnancy.
