T regulatory cells (Tregs) are a cornerstone regulator for immune responses and inflammatory reactions. Abnormal number or function of Tregs causes deranged immune response that increases the autoimmune disorders and inflammatory conditions. Type 1 diabetes mellitus is an autoimmune disease associated with many complications, of which, Cardiovascular complications are fundamental and responsible for profound morbidity and mortality.

Association of serum podocalyxin levels with peripheral arterial disease in patients with type 2 diabetes.

Objective: Renal podocalyxin is a marker for kidney diseases. Previous studies have shown the expression of serum podocalyxin (s-Podxl) in the endothelial cells of blood vessels. We aimed to investigate the association between s-podxl levels and peripheral arterial disease (PAD) in subjects with type 2 diabetes (T2DM).

Association of low serum Meteorin like (Metrnl) concentrations with worsening of glucose tolerance, impaired endothelial function and atherosclerosis.

Objective: Meteorin-like (Metrnl) is a novel secreted protein that has a beneficial effect on glucose homeostasis with anti-inflammatory properties. Our goal is to determine whether low serum Metrnl levels are associated with worsening of glucose tolerance, impaired endothelial function, and atherosclerosis.

Methods: This study included 260 adults, 89 of whom had normal oral glucose tolerance (nOGT), 77 with glucose tolerance impairment (GTI) and 94 with type 2 diabetes (T2DM).

Associated vitamin D deficiency is a risk factor for the complication of HCV-related liver cirrhosis including hepatic encephalopathy and spontaneous bacterial peritonitis.

The influence of vitamin D, 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25(OH)D), deficiency on hepatitis C virus (HCV)-related cirrhosis had been poorly elucidated especially in patients with hepatic encephalopathy (HE) and spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP). We aimed to investigate the association between vitamin D deficiency and the risk of SBP or HE, including the mortality rate. Serum 25(OH)D levels were prospectively determined in 135 patients.
