Quinone-based fluorophores and enhanced native fluorescence techniques were applied for a fast quantitative analysis of gemifloxacin mesylate (GEM) and linezolid (LIN) in pharmaceutical formulations. For this purpose, three sensitive, accurate and precise spectrofluorimetric methods were developed. GEM, as an n-electron donor, reacts with 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquinodimethane (method A) and 2,5-dichloro-3,6-dihydroxy-p-benzoquinone (method B) as п-electron acceptors, forming charge transfer complexes that exhibit high fluorescence intensity at 441 and 390 nm upon excitation at 260 and 339 nm, respectively.

Narrowband ultraviolet (NB-UV)B is accepted as corner stone therapy for vitiligo. Its influence on the expression of IL-17, IL- 22 and FoxP3 as markers for the Th17 and Tregs lineages has not been studied before in the context of non-segmental vitiligo (NSV). The study included 20 active NSV patients who received 36 NB-UVB sessions and 20 controls.

Objectives: To study the agreement of preoperative curettage and definitive histology after hysterectomy as well as the correlation of time factor and hormonal therapy to this agreement.

Methods: This retrospective study was done in the Departments of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Pathology, Faculty of Medicine, Mansoura University, Egypt. Pathology reports of patients exposed to dilatation and curettage followed by hysterectomy during the period from May, 2004 to April, 2011 were reviewed.

Background: A proposal has recently been made regarding the potential adjuvant use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) with fractional carbon dioxide laser (FCL) for the correction of acne scars.

Objective: To compare the efficacy and safety of two administration modes of autologous PRP (intradermal injection (ID) and topical application) after FCL with that of FCL alone in the treatment of atrophic acne scars.

Patients And Methods: Thirty patients were randomly divided into two groups.

Purpose: To study the effect of combined oral prednisolone and LMW heparin in ICSI in women with previously unexplained, failed implantation.

Methods: A prospective quasi-randomized, controlled trial was conducted at a university teaching hospital and a private practice setting. A total of 334 cycles (women with previously unexplained, failed one or two ICSI attempts) were assigned randomly to receive standard treatment or combined prednisolone (20 mg/day), starting on the first day of ovarian stimulation and LMW heparin 1 mg/kg/day starting 1 day after oocyte retrieval in addition to standard treatment.

Background: The frequency of ear, nose, and throat (ENT) involvement in pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is not clear; thereby, the importance of setting routine ENT examination for patients with PV could not be deduced.

Objective: Determine the prevalence of ENT involvement in patients with PV in Egypt; to modify the routine protocol and achieve a step towards better management.

Patients And Methods: Thirty-four patients with PV were included.

Introduction: Despite the ubiquity of 1-month recall periods for measures of sexual function, there is limited evidence for how well recalled responses correspond to individuals' actual daily experiences.

Aim: To characterize the correspondence between daily sexual experiences and 1-month recall of those experiences.

Methods: Following a baseline assessment of sexual functioning, health, and demographic characteristics, 202 adults from the general population (101 women, 101 men) were recruited to complete daily assessments of their sexual function online for 30 days and a single recall measure of sexual function at day 30.

Background: Skewing of responses towards T helper (Th) 17 and away from T regulatory cells (T-regs) has been suggested to be partially involved in autoimmune diseases like vitiligo.

Aims: Clarify the possible role and relationship between Th17 and T-regs in vitiligo by measuring tissue, systemic levels of interleukin (IL)-17, IL-22 and Forkhead box P3.

Patients And Methods: 84 non-segmental vitiligo patients and 80 controls were included.

Aims: Cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) with the resulting prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is linked to increased risk of human breast cancer (BC). The aim of this study was to determine COX-2 169C>G and 8473T>C gene polymorphisms and PGE2 level at various stages of BC clarifying the role of COX-2 gene polymorphism and PGE2 in relation to BC.

Methods: The study population comprised 160 women at different stages of BC and 150 gender- and age-matched healthy control subjects.

Global climate change is projected to increase the frequency and duration of periods of extremely high temperatures. Both the general populace and public health authorities often underestimate the impact of high temperatures on human health. To highlight the vulnerable populations and illustrate approaches to minimization of health impacts of extreme heat, the authors reviewed the studies of heat-related morbidity and mortality for high-risk populations in the U.

Phosphogypsum (PG), primary byproduct from phosphoric acid production, is accumulated in large stockpiles and occupies vast areas of land. Phosphogypsum is a technologically enhanced naturally occurring radioactive material (TE-NORM) that contains radionuclides from (238)U and (232)Th decay series which are of most radio-toxicity. The reduction in concentration of radionuclides content from PG was based on leaching of (226)Ra, (210)Pb, (238)U and (40)K using tri-butyl phosphate (TBP) and tri-octyl phosphine oxide (TOPO) in kerosene.

Background: Understanding the role of environmental and molecular influences on the nature and rate of K-ras mutations in colorectal neoplasms is crucial. COX-2 polymorphisms -765G>C may play a role in carcinogenic processes in combination with specific life-style conditions or dependent on the racial composition of a particular population. If mutational events play an important role in colorectal carcinogenesis sequence, one can hypothesize that modification of these events by life-style or other factors would be a useful prevention strategy.
