The nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain-like receptor 3 (NLRP3) inflammasome is a high molecular weight protein complex that has been linked to a variety of allergic and inflammatory disorders in humans, including atopic dermatitis (AD). Polymorphisms in NLRP3 genes could lead to immune dysregulation. This case-control study aimed to assess the association between NLRP3 inflammasome (rs10754558) gene polymorphism in AD and the incidence and severity of the disease.

Background: Selective immunoglobulin A (IgA) deficiency is characterized by a high incidence of both recurrent infections and atopic diseases. Asthma is one of the most common lung diseases affecting around 300 million people worldwide and is associated with risk of serious pneumococcal disease and microbial infections. Multiple studies have attributed this to impaired innate and adaptive immunity in asthmatics.
