Transrectal oocyte retrieval for fertility preservation in virginal women.

Research Question: How safe and effective is transrectal oocyte retrieval (TROR) for fertility preservation in nulliparous virginal women?

Design: This was a retrospective single-centre study of 105 nulliparous women from five satellite centres of Fakih IVF, UAE, who underwent TROR for oocyte cryopreservation. Extensive bowel preparation and rectal cleansing was performed prior to oocyte retrieval. Patient characteristics, stimulation protocol, and procedure outcome and safety data were collected.

Mediating effect of depression between self-esteem, physical appearance comparison and intuitive eating in adults.

The first aim of the study is to clarify the associations between intuitive eating, self-esteem, physical appearance and psychological distress; and second, to assess the mediating effect of psychological distress on the relationship between self-esteem/physical appearance comparison and intuitive eating. A total of 359 Lebanese participants from several Lebanese governorates were enrolled in this cross-sectional study between September and November 2022. Cystic dysplasia of the rete testis in adulthood: a case report and review of the literature.

Background: Rete testis dysplasia is a cystic anomaly arising from the rete testis presenting normally in the pediatric population. These cases usually regress spontaneously without the need for surgical intervention. There are rare, reported cases of rete testis dysplasia in adulthood, which have been managed surgically.

Differentiating calcifications from cerebral microbleeds using quantitative susceptibility mapping.

Objectives: To differentiate cerebral microbleeds (CMBs) and calcifications using quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM).

Methods: CMBs were visualized and located using QSM from susceptibility-weighted imaging data collected on a 3-T MR scanner. Calcifications of the pineal gland and the choroid plexus were localized first using CT.

The electrocatalytic activity of carbon materials is highly dependent on the controlled modulation of their composition and porosity. Herein, mesoporous N-doped carbon with different amounts of nitrogen was synthesized through a unique strategy of using a high nitrogen containing CN precursor, 3-amino 1,2,4 triazine (3-ATZ) which is generally used for the preparation of carbon nitrides, integrated with the combination of a templating method and high temperature treatment. The nitrogen content and the graphitisation of the prepared materials were finely tuned with the simple adjustment of the carbonisation temperature (800-1100 °C).

Yet, gastrointestinal degradation remains a major hurdle in the discovery of orally bioavailable cyclic peptides. Soft spot identification (SSID) of the regions in the cyclic peptide sequence susceptible to amide hydrolysis by proteases is used in the discovery stage to guide medicinal chemistry design.

The Effect of Chitosan Gel 15% in the Surgical Treatment of Stage III Periodontitis: A Case Report of Two Cases.

Periodontal diseases are widely spread, particularly in adults. Chitosan has non-toxicity and biocompatibility properties, as it has been studied in many studies in various surgical applications. This case report includes two female patients (aged 23 and 48) who were treated by the application of Chitosan gel 15% during open flap debridement in an aggregate of 26 periodontal pockets.

Cyclic peptides are an emerging therapeutic modality over the past few decades. To identify drug candidates with sufficient proteolytic stability for oral administration, it is critical to pinpoint the amide bond hydrolysis sites, or soft spots, to better understand their metabolism and provide guidance on further structure optimization. However, the unambiguous characterization of cyclic peptide soft spots remains a significant challenge during early stage discovery studies, as amide bond hydrolysis forms a linearized isobaric sequence with the addition of a water molecule, regardless of the amide hydrolysis location.

Stress and academic engagement among Saudi undergraduate nursing students: The mediating role of emotion regulation and emotional intelligence.

Aim: To assess the mediating role of emotion regulation and emotional intelligence in the relationship between stress and academic engagement among Saudi undergraduate nursing students.

Design: This study employed a quantitative cross-sectional research design.

Methods: The study recruited 367 Saudi undergraduate nursing students at a major Saudi university.
