Objective: Despite significant advances in cancer treatment with targeted therapies and immunotherapies, cytotoxic chemotherapies are still extensively used. Potential cytotoxic contamination in preparing and administrating cytotoxics is still a major source of concern. Besides advanced protections including biological safety cabinets, work surface contamination needs to be continuously controlled to ensure that handling procedures and cleaning were appropriate.

Background: Venetoclax (VNX)-based regimens have demonstrated significantly favorable outcomes in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and are now becoming the standard treatment. Open lift-drill-fill-fix for medial osteochondral lesions of the talus: surgical technique.

Objective: Osteochondral lesions of the talus (OLT) with a fragment on the talar dome that fail conservative treatment and need surgical treatment can benefit from in situ fixation of the OLT. Advantages of fixation include the preservation of native cartilage, a high quality subchondral bone repair, and the restoration of the joint congruency by immediate fragment stabilization. To improve the chance of successful stabilization, adequate lesion exposure is critical, especially in difficult to reach lesions located on the posteromedial talar dome.

Here, we characterized human tonsil macrophages and identified three subsets with distinct phenotype, transcriptome, life cycle, and function.

Bilateral osteochondritis dissecans of the shoulder.

Osteochondritis dissecans as a pathology is pre-dominantly described in the knee, elbow and ankle. Osteochondritis dissecans of the humeral head is a more uncommon reported injury. We present a case of a bilateral osteochondritis dissecans of the humeral head in a 16-year-old soccer player and an algorithm for treatment of OCD of the humeral head.

In vitro reconstitution of kallikrein-kinin system and progress curve analysis.

Human kallikrein-kinin system (KKS) is a proteolytic cascade with two serine-protease zymogen couples (Factor XII and prekallikrein (PK) and their activated forms, FXIIa, PKa, respectively), releasing bradykinin by cleavage of native high-molecular-weight kininogen (nHK) into cleaved HK. For KKS investigation in human plasma, this cascade is usually triggered on ice eventually by mixing with purified proteins. It has been established that purified FXIIa, PK, and nHK required a fixed order and timing for mixing protein on ice to ensure reproducibility of testing, we investigated the activation kinetics of both enzymes.

Surfing on Turbulence: A Strategy for Planktonic Navigation.

In marine plankton, many swimming species can perceive their environment with flow sensors. Can they use this flow information to travel faster in turbulence? To address this question, we consider plankters swimming at constant speed, whose goal is to move upward. We propose a robust analytical behavior that allows plankters to choose a swimming direction according to the local flow gradients.

Background: Patients with cancer are at high risk of severe or lethal COVID-19. The impact of SARS-COV-2 vaccination on the risk of developing COVID-19 was investigated in an exhaustive series of patients from a comprehensive cancer center.

Methods: This is a study of the exhaustive population of 2391 cancer patients who were prescribed SARS-COV-2 vaccination until 09/21.

Expansion of Immature Neutrophils During SIV Infection Is Associated With Their Capacity to Modulate T-Cell Function.

In spite of the efficacy of combinational antiretroviral treatment (cART), HIV-1 persists in the host and infection is associated with chronic inflammation, leading to an increased risk of comorbidities, such as cardiovascular diseases, neurocognitive disorders, and cancer. Myeloid cells, mainly monocytes and macrophages, have been shown to be involved in the immune activation observed in HIV-1 infection. However, less attention has been paid to neutrophils, the most abundant circulating myeloid cell, even though neutrophils are strongly involved in tissue damage and inflammation in several chronic diseases, in particular, autoimmune diseases.

Identification of human gene research articles with wrongly identified nucleotide sequences.

Nucleotide sequence reagents underpin molecular techniques that have been applied across hundreds of thousands of publications. We have previously reported wrongly identified nucleotide sequence reagents in human research publications and described a semi-automated screening tool Seek & Blastn to fact-check their claimed status. We applied Seek & Blastn to screen >11,700 publications across five literature corpora, including all original publications in from 2007 to 2018 and all original open-access publications in from 2014 to 2018.

Rituximab in combination with adapted-dose of ifosfamide and etoposide as salvage treatment in elderly refractory/relapsed diffuse large B-cell lymphoma patients non-candidate for high dose therapy: a retrospective study.

We retrospectively reviewed for 72 relapsed/refractory (R/R) diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) patients ineligible for autologous stem-cell transplantation (ASCT) treated between 2004 and 2017, efficacy and safety profile of rituximab (375 mg/m) in combination with etoposide (300 mg/m) and ifosfamide (1500 mg/m) at 2, 3, or 4-week intervals. Median age was 79 years (range, 64-92). The median number of previous line was 1 (range 1-8).

Leukocyte Immunoglobulin-Like Receptors in Regulating the Immune Response in Infectious Diseases: A Window of Opportunity to Pathogen Persistence and a Sound Target in Therapeutics.
