Hydrogen (H) is a viable alternative as a sustainable energy source, however, new highly efficient electrocatalysts for water splitting are still a research challenge. In this context, metal-organic frameworks (MOFs)-derived nanomaterials are prominent high-performance electrocatalysts for hydrogen production, especially in the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). Here, a new synthesis of two cerium oxide (CeO) electrocatalysts using Ce-succinates MOFs as templates is proposed.

This work shows the synthesis of a series of Morita-Baylis-Hillman adducts from isatin derivatives via an efficient green approach involving the use of a new catalyst system, a mixture of copper-manganese iminodiacetate 1D coordination polymer (Cu/Mn-IDA) and choline chloride-urea deep eutectic solvent (ChCl/urea 1:2). The adducts were obtained in good to excellent yields (59-97%) with shorter reaction times. The results demonstrate for the first time the synergistic catalytic effect of the combination of deep eutectic solvent and coordination polymer on the Morita-Baylis-Hillman reactions.

This study explores the combined delivery of doxorubicin and quercetin using a gelatin-oxidized alginate-based hydrogel as a promising strategy for localized breast cancer therapy. Our approach involves the incorporation of doxorubicin within the hydrogel matrix and loading quercetin into chitosan-coated zein nanoparticles. The hydrogel exhibited self-healing properties attributed to Schiff base cross-linking and demonstrated injectability.

Considerable amount of produced water discharged by the oil industry contributes to an environmental imbalance due to the presence of several components potentially harmful to the ecosystem. We investigated the factors influencing the adsorption capacity of Zinc Imidazolate Framework-8 (ZIF-8) in finite bath systems for crude oil removal from petroleum extraction in synthetic produced water. ZIF-8, experimentally obtained by solvothermal method, was characterized by XRD, FTIR, TGA, BET and its point of zero charge (pH) was determined.

This contribution aims to demonstrate the scope of new hybrids between biomass and metal-organic frameworks (MOF@biomass) used in the adsorption process of pollutants. After a brief presentation of the use of the main series of MOFs as efficient adsorbents for different types of pollutants, the limitations of these structures related to particle size and hydrodynamic problems during their application are highlighted. Lignocellulosic biomasses are also recognized as an alternative adsorbent, mainly due to their high natural abundance and their low environmental impact during and after their application.

In August 2019, thousands of tons of crude oil from an unidentified source began washing up on the Brazilian coast, causing the most severe environmental disaster that has ever impacted the South Atlantic Ocean. Paiva beach, which has some of the best-preserved tropical coral reefs on the Brazilian coast, was one of the coastal environments most severely affected by this oil. We report on the impact of the disaster on the local population of the symbiotic polychaete Branchiosyllis spp.

A new composite was synthesized by the hydrothermal method using a 3D coordination network [Ln2(C4H4O4)3(H2O)2]·H2O (Ln = Eu and Tb) and activated carbon. The coordination network is formed within the pores of the charcoal, allowing for the use of this material as a detoxifying agent.
