Elevations in systemic phosphate levels, also called hyperphosphatemia, occur in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and during the normal aging process and are associated with various pathologies, such as cardiovascular injury. Experimental studies suggest that at high serum concentrations, phosphate can induce osteogenic differentiation of vascular smooth muscle cells and contribute to vascular calcification. Serum FGF23 is increased in chronic kidney disease (CKD) and contributes to pathologic cardiac hypertrophy by activating FGF receptor (FGFR) 4 on cardiac myocytes, which might lead to the high cardiovascular mortality in CKD patients. Increases in serum FGF23 levels have also been observed following endurance exercise and in pregnancy, which are scenarios of physiologic cardiac hypertrophy as an adaptive response of the heart to increased demand.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with systemic phosphate elevations, called hyperphosphatemia. Translational studies have shown that hyperphosphatemia contributes to CKD-associated inflammation and injury in various tissues, including the kidney, heart, liver, and parathyroid gland. Removal of Cr(VI) species by ion exchange is a relatively simple and efficient method, and its combination with highly tailorable nanomaterials is promising for the treatment of such wastewater. Here, we report a type of cationic porous organic polymer (POP), namely, PTPA-PIP, which can be prepared simply by converting the corresponding aromatic polyamine PTPA to its protonated form, thereby significantly increasing its hydrophilicity and ability to disperse homogeneously in water, crucial for application in water treatment.

The combinatorial approach of sequential antibody treatment (Inotuzumab [InO] and Blinatumomab [Blina]) combined with three donor lymphocyte infusions (DLI) applications and cytoreductive chemotherapy-induced sustained complete molecular remission as documented at the last follow-up 30 months later. This case highlights the feasibility and potential synergistic efficacy of a Blina/DLI regimen and supports the hypothesis that T-cell engagers could enhance the DLI effect.

Against the background of few available pharmacologic antiviral agents, limited by toxicities and resistance, adoptive transfer of virus-specific T-cells (VST) is a promising therapeutic approach.
Methods: We conducted a single-center retrospective analysis of adult patients treated with ADV- or CMV-specific T-cells in 2012-2022.
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with significant reductions in lean body mass and in the mass of various tissues, including skeletal muscle, which causes fatigue and contributes to high mortality rates. In CKD, the cellular protein turnover is imbalanced, with protein degradation outweighing protein synthesis, leading to a loss of protein and cell mass, which impairs tissue function. As CKD itself, skeletal muscle wasting, or sarcopenia, can have various origins and causes, and both CKD and sarcopenia share common risk factors, such as diabetes, obesity, and age.

The condition leads to severe neurological deficits and subsequently results in profound intellectual and motoric disability. Especially, the adult form of MLD, which occurs in individuals aged >16 years, poses significant challenges for treating physicians because of the rarity of cases, limited therapeutic options, and different allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT) protocols worldwide.

Recently, CD19-targeting-chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cells were efficacious as an immune suppressive agent in 6 patients with refractory systemic lupus erythematosus and in 1 patient with antisynthetase syndrome.
Objective: To test the safety and efficacy of CD19-targeting CAR T cells in a patient with severe antisynthetase syndrome, a complex autoimmune disorder with evidence for B- and T-cell involvement.
