A novel de novo variant in the gene causes cleidocranial dysplasia in a Malian girl.

Key Clinical Message: Cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) is a rare genetic skeletal disorder with only few cases reported in Africa, mostly based on clinical and radiological findings. We report the first case in Mali, caused by a novel de novo variant in the RUNX2 gene.

Abstract: Cleidocranial dysplasia (CCD) is a rare autosomal dominant skeletal dysplasia characterized by an aplastic/hypoplastic clavicles, patent sutures and fontanels, dental abnormalities and a variety of other skeletal changes.

Introduction: Mastoiditis is a complication of otitis media and is defined as inflammation (usually infectious) of the mastoid air cells. Its incidence is 1.2 cases per 100,000 in children under 15 years of age, with a higher incidence in infants and a slight male predominance.

African Head and Neck Society Clinical Practice guidelines for thyroid nodules and cancer in developing countries and limited resource settings.

Background: International thyroid nodule and cancer management guidelines generally fail to take into account potential limitations in diagnostic and treatment resources.

Methods: Thyroid cancer specialists from the African Head and Neck Society and American Head & Neck Society Endocrine Section developed guidelines for diagnosis and management of thyroid nodules and cancer in low resource settings. Recommendations were based on literature review and expert opinion, with level of evidence defined.

[Conservative medical treatment of œso-tracheal fistula].

œso-tracheal fistulas are a pathological condition characterized by an abnormal communication between the tracheal tree and the esophagus. We here report a clinical case of œso-tracheal fistula due to the ingestion of a foreign body in order to highlight its etiopathogenesis, to evaluate our therapeutic approach and to do a literature review. The study involved a 15 year old patient admitted with dysphagia evolving over the last two months following the ingestion of a foreign body (a piece of bone).
