Randomized Controlled Trial for the Effects of an Exercise Program for Functional Remission and Weight Control in Schizophrenia: A Community Mental Health Study.

This research was conducted to determine the effect of an exercise program on functional remission and weight control in schizophrenia. This experimental study was conducted with pre-posttests and a control group at community mental health centers with 32 individuals with schizophrenia. The individuals participating in the program registered a more significant increase on the functional remission levels compared to the control group and a significant difference was found between the pretest/posttest BMI measures of the experimental group.

[Analysis of the knowledge and practices of health care workers in Emergency Departments regarding the protection and preservation of evidence in forensic cases].

Background: The frequency of violent incidents is increasing. This increase has made the role of Emergency Department (ED) staff more important in the collection, recording, protection, and storage of the evidence until the arrival of the responsible people concerned with the issue. Therefore, this study was designed to analyze the knowledge and practices of the nursing staff working in the EDs with respect to the protection and preservation of the evidence in forensic cases.

Health professionals' estimation of cancer-related fatigue in children.

Many studies show that cancer-related fatigue is one of the most common symptoms experienced by children as a side effect of cancer therapy. This problem has grown considerably in recent years; the exact mechanisms underlying fatigue remain unclear. Therefore, assessing and managing this symptom can be problematic.

Self-bloodletting: an unusual form of self-mutilation in adolescence.

In this paper, we introduce an adolescent suffering from a rare form of self-mutilation, "self-bloodletting", and discuss dynamics of this maladaptive behavior. Deliberate bloodletting is a rare, but not unheard of, form of self-mutilation associated with eating and personality disorders. Although there are already several case reports in the adult psychiatry literature regarding the clinical features of Lasthenie de Ferjol Syndrome or factitious anemia, this is the first reported adolescent case of self-bloodletting.

Establishment of interdisciplinary child protection teams in Turkey 2002-2006: identifying the strongest link can make a difference!

Objectives: The University of Iowa Child Protection Program collaborated with Turkish professionals to develop a training program on child abuse and neglect during 2002-2006 with the goals of increasing professional awareness and number of multidisciplinary teams (MDT), regional collaborations, and assessed cases. This paper summarizes the 5-year outcome.

Methods: A team of instructors evaluated needs and held training activities in Turkey annually, and provided consultation when needed.

Maternal psychosocial aspects in hypernatremic dehydration with high sodium concentrations in breast milk: a case-control study.

Objective: To investigate whether mothers, with no known biological reason to account for elevated breast milk sodium (BMS) and associated hypernatremic dehydration (HND) in their exclusively breastfed infants, have more adverse psychosocial characteristics compared with controls.

Methods: Design is prospective case-control. Mothers of 21 term infants diagnosed as HND with associated high BMS and mothers of 43 healthy, exclusively breastfed term infants, with expected milk sodium levels, were compared on rates of socio-demographic and relationship variables, pregnancy wantedness and planning, maternal attitudes towards breastfeeding, postnatal maternal depression and anxiety.
