A 60-year-old man was found to have a renal artery aneurysm in his transplanted kidney during a routine ultrasound, despite his kidney function being stable.
A magnetic resonance angiogram confirmed the aneurysm, which measured 6.0 x 4.9 x 4.7 cm and posed a high risk of rupture.
An open surgical repair involving resection of the aneurysm and dacron patch arterioplasty was successfully performed, and the patient recovered well, with normal renal function by the fifth day post-surgery.
