Purpose: To compare the efficacy of gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy combined with cataract surgery (PGATT) and trabeculectomy combined with cataract surgery (PTRAB) in open-angle glaucoma patients.
Methods: A multi-centered, retrospective, non-randomized study included 67 PGATT patients and 70 PTRAB patients. We compared preoperative intraocular pressure (IOP), best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA) compared with early and final IOP, medication numbers, and BCVA levels.
Objectives: To assess changes in reflectivity of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE), ellipsoid zone (EZ), and external limiting membrane (ELM) on spectral domain-optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) images and the effects of reflectivity changes on visual acuity improvement after vitrectomy in macular hole patients.
Materials And Methods: Twenty-four eyes of 24 patients with idiopathic full-thickness macular hole closed after vitrectomy were retrospectively reviewed. The "plot profile" function of the medical imaging software was used by a single masked physician to analyze RPE, EZ, and ELM reflectivity on OCT images at postoperative 1 month and 12 months.
Purpose: To investigate the efficacy and safety of gonioscopy-assisted transluminal trabeculotomy (GATT) with or without cataract extraction (CE) in primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG) and pseudoexfoliation glaucoma (PEX) patients.
Methods: A retrospective, non-randomized study included 108 eyes of 108 patients, with a mean age of 65.96 ± 14.
Purpose: To determine the cytokine levels in vitreous samples of diabetic macular edema (DME) patients in comparison with nondiabetic patients, and to evaluate the effect of subretinal fluid on the cytokine levels of vitreous samples.
Methods: In this prospective case-control study, 11 eyes of 11 patients with DME and subretinal fluid, 11 eyes of 11 patients with DME without subretinal fluid, and 14 eyes of 14 patients who had undergone vitreoretinal surgery for the epiretinal membrane or a macular hole (control group) were evaluated. The blood glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) level, vitreous vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and interleukin-8 (IL-8) levels were determined.
Purpose: To elucidate the metabolic processes playing roles in the formation of keratoconus (KC).
Methods: Tears samples were collected using capillary glass tubes without stimulation and without prior anesthesia from 17 patients and 16 controls. Proteomic analysis by fluorescent 2D gel electrophoresis (DIGE) coupled with MALDI-TOF/TOF was performed.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the treatment efficacy of vitrectomy combined with subretinal recombinant tissue plasminogen activator (r-tPA) and factors affecting visual improvement in patients with submacular hemorrhage (SMH) due to neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD).
Materials And Methods: Medical records of 17 consecutive patients diagnosed with SMH secondary to nAMD were retrospectively reviewed. The initial surgical procedure involved a 23-gauge transconjunctival vitrectomy, subretinal r-tPA application through a self-sealing inferior retinotomy, and sulfur hexafluoride gas for tamponade in all patients.
