Article Synopsis
  • * A comparison was made between 195 patients regarding hearing improvement and 211 patients for GSR, focusing on 103 DLG and 108 SLG patients' postoperative results.
  • * Findings revealed that while the DLG group had slightly better hearing averages, there was no significant difference in hearing gain or GSR between DLG and SLG, suggesting DLG may not be the better choice and could potentially negatively impact hearing.

BACKGROUND This prospective study aimed to compare outcomes and hearing improvement in 51 patients with adhesive otitis media following endoscopic and microscopic tympanoplasty. MATERIAL AND METHODS Between April 2021 and April 2022, 51 patients diagnosed with pars tensa retraction and hearing loss who underwent endoscopic and microscopic cartilage tympanoplasty were included in the study (endoscopic tympanoplasty group: 26 patients, microscopic tympanoplasty group: 25 patients). Pure-tone audiometric data (0.

Objective: This study aimed to assess the effect of drilling during mastoidectomy on otolithic organ functions and development of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo using objective vestibular tests.

Materials And Methods: The study included 45 adult patients diagnosed with chronic otitis media who underwent mastoidectomy with drilling. Pre-operative and post-operative assessments included tests for subjective visual vertical deviation and videonystagmography.

Objective: The quantitative suppression rate of positional nystagmus (PN) by ocular fixation (OF) is unknown. This study aims to analyse the effect of OF on the slow phase velocity (SPV) of PN during diagnostic positional manoeuvres (DPMs) with videonystagmography in patients with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV).

Design: DPMs were performed on 58 patients with BPPV, 33 (56.

Since identical twins occur as a result of the division of one egg, they have the same genetic structure. Therefore, their phenotypes and sex are also always the same. However, due to the effect of environmental factors, some of the characteristics of twins living in different regions appear to develop differently.

Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the association between upper airway morphology and apnea vs hypopnea predominance in patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) syndrome.

Methods: A retrospective study on consecutively CT scans obtained from 54 OSA patients and 53 non-snoring controls. CT scans were measured to evaluate upper airway and surrounding structures' morphologic characteristics.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the anti-ototoxic impact of Ginkgo biloba extract and lycopene on the model of cisplatin-induced ototoxicity in rats.

Materials And Methods: Thirty-two Wistar albino rats were examined with the distortion product otoacoustic emission (DPOAE) test (MADSEN Capella2 ; GN Otometrics, ICS Medical, Chicago USA), and they were randomly divided into four groups. Group 1 (n=8) was defined as the healthy control group.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate how anterior palatoplasty affects upper airway volume in patients with snoring and mild-moderate obstructive sleep apnea using CT scans.
  • A total of 22 patients underwent assessments before and after the surgery, revealing a significant increase in total upper airway volume and changes in soft palate length, though soft palate thickness remained unchanged.
  • The findings suggest that anterior palatoplasty notably enhances upper airway volume and cross-sectional area, while lateral airway dimensions are not significantly impacted, highlighting the effectiveness of CT imaging for assessing airway changes post-surgery.

Introduction: Crooked or deviated nose is a deviation of the nose from the straight vertical position of the face. Extensive pneumatization of the middle turbinate, also called concha bullosa or bullous middle turbinate (BMT) is known to be one of the possible etiologic factors in nasal obstruction, recurrent sinusitis, and headache. There is no study concerning a link between BMT and crooked nose.

To investigate the effect of transtympanic betamethasone administration on hearing function with histologic correlation, rats were divided into three transtympanic treatment groups: isotonic saline (group I, n = 10), gentamicin (group II, n = 10) and betamethasone (group III, n = 10). Distortion product otoacoustic emission thresholds were compared on day 10. Also histological effects on cellular apoptosis in both the inner and outer hair cells in organ of Corti and spiral ganglion neurons were evaluated.

The importance of clinical assessment and its contribution to the diagnosis of neck masses was investigated in patients presenting with a neck mass. In our study, we collected the medical history of a total of 127 patients, including 66 males and 61 females, who presented with a neck mass. Physical exams, endoscopic examinations, laboratory tests, a variety of imaging studies, and fine-needle aspiration biopsies were performed.

The aim of this study is to investigate the thyroid functions and its correlation with polysomnography findings in obstructive sleep apnea patients. This study was conducted on 203 patients evaluated with the complaints of snoring, witnessed apnea and daytime sleepiness and established polysomnography (PSG) indication between May 2008 and August 2011. All patients' nocturnal PSG recordings were carried out.

To our knowledge, no studies up to date have investigated the correlation of rapid eye movement (REM) dependent obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and Muller maneuver. The aim of this study is to investigate whether REM-dependent OSAS is predicted by the findings of the Muller maneuver. The study was conducted on 149 patients with witnessed apnea and daytime sleepiness.

Article Synopsis
  • This study examines the relationship between the site of airway obstruction during Müller's maneuver and sleep apnea severity in patients
  • A total of 87 patients, primarily middle-aged males, underwent assessments including body measurements and sleep monitoring
  • The findings show a significant link between the severity of obstruction in the lateral pharyngeal walls at the tongue base and higher apnea-hypopnea index values, indicating worse obstructive sleep apnea.

Hemolacria is a very rare entity which literally means "bloody tears". Conjunctivitis, capillary hemangioma, conjunctival telangiectasia, trauma, retrograde epistaxis and nasal and paranasal neoplasms may play a role in its etiology. In our case report, a 11-year-old female patient who presented with the complaint of bilateral epistaxis accompanied by bloody tears that had been present for 2 years and whose endoscopic examination revealed hyperemia and increased vascularity in the nasal cavity mucosa was discussed together with a review of the literature.
