Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the use of botulinum toxin A (BTX-A) in treating acute acquired comitant esotropia (AACE) in children and young adults, particularly related to increased screen time during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 27 patients who received BTX-A injections to correct misalignment of the eyes caused by excessive use of devices like laptops and smartphones, focusing on the changes in eye deviation and binocular vision post-treatment.
  • Results indicated that BTX-A was effective, with significant improvements in eye alignment and visual function noted, especially when treatment was administered early after symptom onset.

Article Synopsis
  • Manual small incision cataract surgery (SICS) is a safe and cost-effective alternative to phacoemulsification, particularly beneficial for patients in developing countries and for complex cases in developed nations.
  • The new "Tunnel stamp" device assists novice surgeons in making precise sclero corneal tunnels (SCTs) by guiding incision lengths and shapes, thereby reducing complications.
  • Future plans involve designing the device in transparent flexible silicon and in various sizes to cater to different cataract types, improving alignment and overall surgical outcomes.

We herein describe a novel device to contain droplets and aerosols during phacoemulsification. We modified the silicon phaco test chamber into an aerosol containment chamber (ACC) by shortening the chamber and making a pear-shaped opening at one aspect of its tip. The ACC was fitted over phaco tip such that 4-5 mm of phaco tip and sleeve was exposed.
