A simple and sensitive spectrophotometric method for the determination of three catecholamines namely dopamine hydrochloride (DO.HCl), dobutamine hydrochloride (DOB.HCl) and vanillymandelic acid (VMA), in both pure form or in their commercially available pharmaceutical formulations or urine samples of schizopherinic patients is described.

Dopamine acts as neurotransmitter in the central and peripheral sympathetic nervous system. Determination of dopamine (DO) was performed by spectrophotometric analysis depending on the formation of new colored compound. The proposed procedure was efficient in quantitative determination of DO as pure material in pharmaceutical preparations and in urine samples.

A simple and rapid extraction spectrophotometric procedure has been developed for the determination of tricyclic anti-depressant drugs such as trazodone (TZH), amineptine (APH) and amitriptyline (ATPH) hydrochlorides in pure form and in different dosage forms. The method involves the formation of intense yellow ion-pairs between these drugs under investigation and methyl orange (MO) and bromocresol green (BCG) reagents followed by their extraction with 1,2-dichloroethane and quantitative microdetermination at 420 and 410 nm using MO or BCG, respectively. The optimum experimental conditions for the ion-pairs formation are established.

The present work aims chiefly to study the thermal behaviour of Fe(III), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) complexes with 6-(2-pyridylazo)-3-acetamidophenol (PAAP) in nitrogen atmosphere. The moieties of the prepared complexes contain mainly coordinated water molecules (1-3) together with some water of crystallization. The water molecules of crystallization are removed in a single stage.
