Article Synopsis
  • A case-control study assessed the relationship between dietary branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA) risk and severity, involving 95 RA patients and 190 matched controls.
  • Higher dietary BCAA intake was linked to a significantly increased risk of developing RA, with specific amino acids like leucine and isoleucine showing strong associations.
  • However, the intake of BCAAs did not correlate with the severity of RA symptoms, indicating that while they may play a role in the onset of the disease, they do not affect its progression.

In time to event analysis, the situation of competing risks arises when the individual (or subject) may experience mutually exclusive causes of death (failure), where cause-specific hazard function is of great importance in this framework. For instance, in malignancy-related death, colorectal cancer is one of the leading causes of the death in the world and death due to other causes considered as competing causes. We include prognostic variables in the model through parametric Cox proportional hazards model.
