Investigation of pantoprazole loading and release from a magnetic-coated chitosan-modified zirconium-based metal-organic framework (MOF) as a nanocarrier in targeted drug delivery systems.

This study reports a novel magnetic and porous nanocomposite, FeO@CS@UIO-66-NH(Zr), developed by growing a zirconium-based metal-organic framework on magnetite-chitosan. It is designed for targeted and delayed pantoprazole delivery, the nanocomposite exhibits pH-sensitive behavior and functions as an efficient nanocarrier. The synthesis process involved coating magnetite nanoparticles with chitosan, followed by the growth of UIO-66-NH(Zr) on the coated nanoparticles.

Epidemiology of protozoan and helminthic parasites in wild passerine birds of Britain and Ireland.

Avian endoparasites play important roles in conservation, biodiversity and host evolution. Currently, little is known about the epidemiology of intestinal helminths and protozoans infecting wild birds of Britain and Ireland. This study aimed to determine the rates of parasite prevalence, abundance and infection intensity in wild passerines.

Fanconi Anemia Pathway in Colorectal Cancer: A Novel Opportunity for Diagnosis, Prognosis and Therapy.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the third most commonly diagnosed malignancy and has the second highest mortality rate globally. Thanks to the advent of next-generation sequencing technologies, several novel candidate genes have been proposed for CRC susceptibility. Germline biallelic mutations in one or more of the 22 currently recognized Fanconi anemia (FA) genes have been associated with Fanconi anemia disease, while germline monoallelic mutations, somatic mutations, or the promoter hypermethylation of some genes increases the risk of cancer development, including CRC.

Molecular mechanisms of apoptosis induction in K562 and KG1a leukemia cells by a water-soluble copper(II) thiosemicarbazone complex.

Thiosemicarbazones (TSCs) and their metal complexes exhibit pronounced and selective cytotoxic potential against a broad span of cancers. Here, we assessed the anti-cancer activity of a water-soluble copper(II) complex of thiosemicarbazone (Cu-TSC) against two cancer cell lines of human leukemia. Our analysis revealed that Cu-TSC treatment results in a time and dose-dependent growth inhibition in K562 and KG1a cells while sparing normal human fibroblast (HFF2) cells.

Ultrasound-assisted synthesis and characterization of a new metal-organic framework based on azobenzene-4,4-dicarboxylic acid: Precursor for the fabrication of CoO nano-particles.

Azobenzene groups are widely known as photochromic ligands thus are particularly interesting building blocks for designing receptors for neutral or charged guests. A new metal-organic framework, [Co(adc)(DMF)].2DMF (compound 1) (adc = azobenzene-4,4-dicarboxylic acid, DMF = N,N-dimethylformamide), was synthesized by solvothermal methods and structurally characterized using X-ray crystallography and a range of spectroscopic techniques.

Serum uric acid level and its association with cardiometabolic risk factors in prediabetic subjects.

Background: Excess serum uric acid (UA) accumulation can lead to various diseases. Increasing evidences reveal that UA may have a key role in the pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome. Little is known about the associations of UA levels with cardiometabolic risk factors in prediabetic individuals.
