Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how the hydroalcoholic extract of Securigera securidaca seeds (HESS) affects insulin secretion and pancreatic health in diabetic rats induced by STZ, with a focus on its antioxidant properties.
  • Researchers administered different doses of HESS to diabetic rats and measured blood insulin and glucose levels, oxidative stress indicators, and gene expression related to insulin secretion.
  • Results showed that HESS treatment increased insulin levels and decreased oxidative stress, improved pancreatic tissue health, and normalized gene expression of insulin transcription factors, suggesting HESS may help manage diabetes.

Background: Available data suggest inhibition of the pancreatic local-renin-angiotensin system (RAS) reduces tissue complications of diabetes. The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effect of hydroalcoholic seed extract of () (HESS) on the pancreatic local-RAS and its alternative pathway.

Methods: Three doses of HESS were orally administered to three groups of diabetic male Wistar rats, and the results were compared with both diabetic and healthy control groups.
