Colorectal cancer is frequent and diagnosed earlier thanks to the screening and to the progresses in the preoperative assessment. The precocity of the surgical resection takes advantage from the complete resection of vascular and nodes involvement. The rectal localisation of the cancer requires to take the reconstruction into account.

The 92 samples include normal (31 cases) and cirrhotic (14 cases) tissues, benign tumors (7 cases), well-differentiated hepatocellular carcinomas (HCCs, 13 cases), moderately and poorly differentiated HCCs (8 cases), and colorectal glandular metastatic tissues (19 cases). The samples are from either fine-needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB) or histologic imprint smears (HIS).

Measurements of DNA ploidy, proliferation index and nuclear area were performed on 210 samples taken from 15 human colorectal tissues. The tissues were divided into four groups labeled G1, G2, G3 and C. For each of the 15 tissues 9 samples were taken from the so-called unaffected--i.

The material is obtained by cytological aspirations or by imprint smears from liver biopsy. The monoparametric analysis differentiates a benign and a malignant cellular populations.

They underline the simplicity of the technique, its reduced morbidity, and they focus on the infrequency of reoccurrence in 47 patients reseen 6 months to 4 1/2 years in follow up. The authors have not observed a difference in the local results, recent and long term, after intervention using this technique under general or local-regional anesthesia.

Primary resection reduces mortality and morbidity of the emergency operation and the combined mortality and morbidity of all operative procedures.

Ureteral obstruction resulting from idiopathic retroperitoneal fibrosis (IRF) generally requires a surgical approach sometimes associated with the administration of a corticosteroid. Corticosteroids alone have also been used successfully for recurrences of IRF after the surgical procedure; however, their success is not uniform. We treated a patient with IRF and ureteral obstruction who showed a dramatic recurrence soon after treatment with prednisone was discontinued.

Although data from the literature shows a high incidence of venous thrombosis due to central catheters, we only found 3 positive results in our series of 37 patients (8%). A fibrin sheath develops along the entire length of the catheter, and, in cases of thrombosis, the point at which the catheter penetrates the central venous system is always involved.

Heparin was administered 2 hours before the operation and every 8 hours during 6 days thereafter, each time at the dose of 5,000 U subcutaneously. Ninety-nine patients undergoing major surgery were randomized into two groups of 55 control operated patients and 44 operated patients treated with heparin.
