It has been reported that the presence of muscle tone during REM sleep (REM sleep without atonia-RSWA) could play a protective role in patients with OSAS RBD.

Emergent Sp(3,R) Dynamical Symmetry in the Nuclear Many-Body System from an Ab Initio Description.

Ab initio nuclear theory provides not only a microscopic framework for quantitative description of the nuclear many-body system, but also a foundation for deeper understanding of emergent collective correlations. A symplectic Sp(3,R)⊃U(3) dynamical symmetry is identified in ab initio predictions, from a no-core configuration interaction approach, and found to provide a qualitative understanding of the spectrum of ^{7}Be. Low-lying states form an Elliott SU(3) spectrum, while an Sp(3,R) excitation gives rise to an excited rotational band with strong quadrupole connections to the ground state band.

Novel durum wheat genes up-regulated in response to a combination of heat and drought stress.

We report the effect of heat, drought and combined stress on the expression of a group of genes that are up-regulated under these conditions in durum wheat (Triticum turgidum subsp. durum) plants. Modulation of gene expression was studied by cDNA-AFLP performed on RNAs extracted from flag leaves.

Kunitz-type protease inhibitors group B from Solanum palustre.

Five Kunitz protease inhibitor group B genes were isolated from the genome of the diploid non-tuber-forming potato species Solanum palustre. Three of five new genes share 99% identity to the published KPI-B genes from various cultivated potato accessions, while others exhibit 96% identity. Spls-KPI-B2 and Spls-KPI-B4 proteins contain unique substitutions of the most conserved residues usually involved to trypsin and chymotrypsin-specific binding sites of Kunitz-type protease inhibitor (KPI)-B, respectively.

9-lipoxygenase metabolism is involved in the almond/Aspergillus carbonarius interaction.

Phyto-oxylipins are a group of biologically active molecules that play an important role in plant defence. Their production begins with the oxygenation of polyunsaturated fatty acids by lipoxygenases (LOX) to form 9- or 13-hydroperoxides that are substrates for several enzymes involved in the synthesis of final oxylipins, which can act as signal molecules and/or direct antimicrobials. In the present work, the response of the 9-LOX pathway in the almond/Aspergillus carbonarius (producer of ochratoxin A) interaction was studied.

Oxylipin metabolism represents one of many defence mechanisms employed by plants. It begins with the oxygenation of polyunsaturated fatty acids by lipoxygenases to form fatty acid hydroperoxides that are substrates for several enzymes, including specialized cytochrome P450s known as CYP74s. The targeting of a new CYP74, a 9-hydroperoxide lyase (HPL) from almonds, to the endomembrane system and lipid bodies, both as enzyme activity in almond seeds and as GFP fusions transiently expressed in tobacco protoplasts, is described.

Eighteen clones representing copies of four Kunitz-type proteinase inhibitor group B genes (PKPI-B) obtained by polymerase chain reaction cloning of potato (Solanum tuberosum L. cv. Istrinskii) genomic DNA were sequenced and analyzed.

Agenesis of the gallbladder and cystic duct is a rare anomaly that is usually asymptomatic. The patient may present symptoms characteristic of cholelithiasis. Its surgical confirmation requires careful dissection of the common bile duct and intraoperative cholangiography or ultrasonography to be performed, to exclude the possibility of an ectopic gallbladder.
