Rhabdomyosarcoma (RMS) is the most common soft tissue sarcoma in children and adolescents and its occurrence in adults is extremely rare. There are three major subtypes of RMS of which alveolar RMS (ARMS) has the worst prognosis and tends to metastasize to unusual locations such as the pancreas. We present a case of a 19-year-old male with a rapidly enlarging right orbital mass, the imaging of which revealed it to be an infiltrative lesion with extension into the nasal cavity, ethmoid sinuses, and intracranial involvement.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFA series of fluorinated-phosphonic acid methacrylates were synthesized by free radical polymerization using heptadecafluorodecyl methacrylate (HDFDMA) and (dimethoxyphosphoryl) methyl methacrylate (DMPMM) monomers for potential application as anti-corrosion coatings. The dimethyl protecting groups were then hydrolyzed, giving phosphonic acid groups that are able to stably bind onto metal oxide surfaces. The copolymers were then immobilized as a monolayer film to the surface of 316L stainless steel by treatment of dilute solutions in trifluoroacetic acid for 30 minutes followed by rinsing.

The use of microorganisms for biological purpose has become an effective alternative to control pathogens. A marine bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa was isolated from Eal fish of Baluchistan coast of Pakistan. This strain produced a bactericidal antibiotic against environmental and clinical isolates.

Two new tetracyclic diterpenoids trivially named as limbatenolide D (1) and limbatenolide E (2) have been isolated from Otostegia limbata. The structure elucidation of the compounds was based primarily on two-dimensional (2D) NMR techniques and on comparison with the literature data.

The structure elucidations of those compounds were based primarily on 1D- and 2D-NMR analysis, including COSY, HMBC, and HMQC correlations. Compounds 1-4 also inhibited butyrylcholinesterase (BChE; EC 3.

The structure of the new compounds atriplicosaponin A (1) and atriplicosaponin B (2) were established as 3-O-[alpha-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-->2)-beta-D-xylopyranosyl]-hederagenin and 27 alpha-hydroxyurs-12-ene-3-O-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl(1-->4)(2-O-sulpho)-beta-D-quinovopyranoside] and known compound was identified as 3-O-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl]-beta-sitosterol. The structure elucidations of the compounds were based primarily on 1D and 2D-NMR analysis, including COSY, HMBC and HMQC correlations.

The structure elucidation of the new compounds was based primarily on two-dimensional (2D) NMR techniques. Compounds 1-3 displayed inhibitory potential in a concentration-dependent manner against acetylcholinesterase (AChE; EC 3.

The structures of the new compounds were determined by 1D and 2D homonuclear and heteronuclear NMR spectroscopy, from chemical evidence and by comparison with published data for closely related compounds. Symcomoside B (2) showed potent inhibitory activity against alpha-glucosidase in a concentration-dependent fashion with an IC50 value of 0.
