This review explores recent progress in sequencing batch reactors (SBRs) and hybrid systems for wastewater treatment, emphasizing their adaptability and effectiveness in managing diverse wastewater compositions. Through extensive literature analysis from 1985 to 2024, the integration of advanced technologies like photocatalysis within hybrid systems is highlighted, showing promise for improved pollutant removal efficiencies. Insights into operational parameters, reactor design, and microbial communities influencing SBR performance are discussed.

The ASBR was stable at each HRT but performed relatively well at 12 h (OLR - 7.8-9.

Numerous technologies such as electrocoagulation, membrane separation, advanced oxidation, physico-chemical processes, and biological treatment have been implemented for reducing the concentrations of these compounds. Nevertheless, this review aims to provide extensive information solely on the biological treatment (anaerobic and aerobic) of slaughterhouse wastewater.

Aerobic granules to treat wastewater containing o-nitrophenol were successfully developed in a sequencing batch reactor (SBR) using activated sludge as inoculum. Stable aerobic granules were obtained with a clearly defined shape and diameters ranging from 2 to 6 mm after 122 days of operation. The integrity coefficient (IC) and granules density was found to be 98% and 1,054 kg m(-3) respectively.

The study was performed to assess the efficacy of an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor for the degradation of mixtures of phenol and m-cresol. The experiments were performed in an upflow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor. The reactor was seeded with digested sewage sludge and was initially operated at 24 HRT.
