Article Synopsis
  • The study evaluated SMS text reminders for colorectal cancer screening in Catalonia, finding that they were less effective than standard postal reminders in increasing participation rates.
  • The trial involved over 24,000 participants aged 50 to 69 and was halted early due to lower than expected participation in the SMS group (17.2% vs. 21.9% for control).
  • Despite initial low participation, a recovery strategy of sending additional postal reminders to nonparticipants in the SMS group improved overall participation rates to 29.3%.

Article Synopsis
  • The study compared text message invitations to traditional postal letters for inviting women to participate in a breast cancer screening program, focusing on participation rates.
  • In a randomized control trial, approximately 5,300 women received text messages while another similar group received letters, with both groups given fixed appointment information and reminders.
  • Results showed a participation rate of 87.3% for letters and 86.6% for texts, proving text messages are not inferior to letters, while text recipients had higher initial attendance and lower cancellation rates.

Intensive home treatment (IHT) has shown to be a feasible alternative to hospitalization for the management of acute psychiatric episodes, but there are no real-world studies assessing if patients with a first IHT use it again for the management of their recurrences. The objectives of this retrospective cohort study were to map the use ofacute treatment resources after the implementation of IHT in our territory through the establishment of trajectories of management, and to disentangle if there are profiles of patients who fit better each trajectory. We included the first 1000 episodes admitted to IHT, of which we selected those that corresponded to the first IHT of a patient (index admission).

Article Synopsis
  • This study looked at how a type of kidney tumor called AML behaves over a long time, following 111 patients with 145 tumors between 2001 and 2019.
  • Most patients didn't have any symptoms, and only a small number needed surgery because their tumors were big.
  • The research found that AML tumors usually grow slowly, and doctors might not need to check them as often or use complex imaging tests.

Vertebrate color vision is predominantly mediated by the presence of multiple cone photoreceptor subtypes that are each maximally sensitive to different wavelengths of light. Thyroid hormone (TH) has been shown to be essential in the spatiotemporal patterning of cone subtypes in many species, including cone subtypes that express opsins that are encoded by tandemly replicated genes. TH has been shown to differentially regulate the tandemly replicated lws opsin genes in zebrafish, and exogenous treatments alter the expression levels of these genes in larvae and juveniles.

Introduction: Understanding how photoreceptor genes are regulated is important for investigating retinal development and disease. While much is known about gene regulation in cones, the mechanism by which tandemly-replicated opsins, such as human long wavelength-sensitive and middle wavelength-sensitive opsins, are differentially regulated remains elusive. In this study, we aimed to further our understanding of transcriptional heterogeneity in cones that express tandemly-replicated opsins and the regulation of such differential expression using zebrafish, which express the tandemly-replicated opsins and .

Interprofessional communication about inflammatory and non-inflammatory musculoskeletal conditions is an important component of assessment and management in paediatric rheumatology. Chronic pain is a feature of some of these conditions which likely influences the extent and type of communication about pain. Research investigating interprofessional communication about paediatric pain is limited but has found that communication is inclusive of the biopsychosocial context of children/adolescents as well as their families.

We show that TANGO2 in mammalian cells localizes predominantly to mitochondria and partially at mitochondria sites juxtaposed to lipid droplets (LDs) and the endoplasmic reticulum. HepG2 cells and fibroblasts of patients lacking TANGO2 exhibit enlarged LDs. Quantitative lipidomics revealed a marked increase in lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) and a concomitant decrease in its biosynthetic precursor phosphatidic acid (PA).

Background: There is extensive evidence of important health risks for infants and mothers related to not breastfeeding. In 2003, the World Health Organization recommended that infants be breastfed exclusively until six months of age, with breastfeeding continuing as an important part of the infant's diet until at least two years of age. However, current breastfeeding rates in many countries do not reflect this recommendation.
