Article Synopsis
  • - The study explored how different heat treatments affected the thermoluminescence (TL) and structure of zinc sulfide (ZnS) samples, revealing that annealing increased the proportion of the hexagonal wurtzite phase.
  • - The best thermoluminescence intensity was found in a sample with 8.2% wurtzite and 91.8% cubic zinc sulfide, with the analysis showing well-formed, aggregated ZnS nanoparticles.
  • - The researchers used advanced techniques to analyze TL glow curves, identifying multiple trapping energy peaks and determining activation energies related to electron traps in the samples.

Background: Despite concerted efforts by the nephrology community to increase the quality of nephrology education via a plethora of free open access medical education tools and efforts by national nephrology societies, interest in nephrology has mostly remained stagnant.

Methods: A 6-month virtual learning and mentoring program (NephSIM Nephrons) was launched in January 2021 to increase interest in nephrology careers among medical students and residents. Trainees were assigned one faculty mentor and a small group with faculty and other trainees.

The current work was going to study the dosimetric properties of Egyptian muscovite minerals irradiated with β-rays using the thermoluminescence technique (TL). The analysis of the TL glow curves was done using the (T - T) and the initial rise methods. The deconvolution of the muscovite glow curves was analyzed to have eight superimposed trapping peaks.

Biodiesel is rapidly becoming an efficient substitute for fuel and a potentially significant future renewable energy source. In recent years, used cooking oil has been used as a feedstock for biofuel to reduce production costs. Due to its high catalytic activity, low cost, and eco-friendliness, Nano magnesium oxide (MgO) has attracted attention as a catalyst for biodiesel production.

Purpose: Estimation of multi-compartment intravoxel 'flow' in in ml/100g/min with multi-b-value diffusion weighted imaging and a multi-Gaussian model in the kidneys.

Theory And Methods: A multi-Gaussian model of intravoxel flow using water transport time to quantify (ml/100g/min) is presented and simulated. Multi-compartment anisotropic DWI signal is simulated with Rician noise and SNR=50 and analyzed with a rigid bi-exponential, a rigid tri-exponential and diffusion spectrum imaging model of intravoxel incoherent motion (spectral diffusion) to study extraction of multi-compartment flow.

Cladribine tablets (CladT), like alemtuzumab, acts as an immune reconstitution therapy. However, CladT is administered orally (alemtuzumab is given by infusion) and without the potential for serious side effects that limit the therapeutic use of alemtuzumab in multiple sclerosis (MS). Treatment with CladT, given initially as short courses of treatment 1 year apart, provides years of freedom from MS disease activity in responders to treatment.

Background: Optic neuritis is an inflammatory disorder of the optic nerve and is often the initial manifestation of systemic demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS), neuromyelitis optic spectrum disorder (NMOSD), and myelin-oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibody-mediated disease. There are ethnic variations in the etiology of optic neuritis across the world. While multiple sclerosis is common in the West, NMOSD and MOG are more common causes in Asian patients.

Purpose: The present study investigated the nephron-testicular protective effects of sesamin against cisplatin (CP)-induced acute renal and testicular injuries.

Methods: Thirty-two male Wistar rats were allocated to receive carboxymethylcellulose (0.5%, as sesamin vehicle), CP (a single i.

The Western Delta Deep Marine Concession (WDDM) in the Eastern Mediterranean Sea is one of northern Africa's most recent petroleum-potential regions for gas and condensate exploration. The present study aims to determine the characteristics of the 15 natural gases and 5 associated condensate samples, using molecular compositions and isotopes from the Miocene reservoir rocks in the various wells located in the WDDM. The results of this study are also used to determine the gas-condensate correlation for their probable source rocks as well as the methane-generating mechanisms (i.

Cisplatin (Cis) is among the most powerful antineoplastic medications, nevertheless, its serious side effects; particularly nephrotoxicity designates a major concern. Previous studies reported that ezetimibe (Eze), a well-known antihyperlipidemic drug, exerts additional trivial pharmacological effects. In this work, we displayed Eze as an intriguing protective candidate in a cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity rat model through AMPK activation.

Polyphenolics have been predicted to effectively develop antimicrobial agents for the food industry as food additives and promote human health. This study aims to synthesize pomegranate peel extract (PPE) with silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) against eight foodborne pathogens. Multispectroscopic analysis of UV-vis spectroscopy, Zeta potential, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis were used to characterize the interaction between PPE and AgNPs.

In this study, the preparation and characterization of copper (Cu) and terbium (Tb) co-doped lithium borate glass using spectroscopic and thermoluminescence techniques are reported. A thermal treatment was introduced to increase the degree of crystallinity. The thermoluminescence glow curve signal of the samples displayed upon exposure to beta radiation was measured and analyzed.

Bladder cancer (BC) is the sixth most common worldwide urologic malignancy associated with elevated morbidity and mortality rates if not well treated. The muscle-invasive form of BC develops in about 25% of patients. Moreover, according to estimates, 50% of patients with invasive BC experience fatal metastatic relapses.

The development of the metanephros in one-humped camels involves a complex series of interactions between epithelial and mesenchymal cells. As a result, there is a synchronized differentiation process of stromal, vascular and epithelial cell types during glomerulogenesis, angiogenesis and tubulogenesis. In the current work, the metanephros of camel foetuses were divided into four stages where kidneys from each stage were processed and immunoassayed, followed by quantitative analysis to determine target protein intensities throughout metanephrogenesis in the camel.

Introduction: Inconvenient administration and side effects of some disease-modifying therapies (DMTs) for relapsing multiple sclerosis (RMS) can deter adherence. We evaluated treatment satisfaction with cladribine tablets (CladT) for RMS in the Arabian Gulf.

Methods: This was a non-interventional, multicentre, prospective observational study in non-pregnant/lactating adults (aged ≥ 18 years) with RMS eligible for 1st treatment with CladT (EU labelling).

Background: It is not known how learners feel about free open access medical education (FOAMed) as they progress through their training from medical school to fellowship. Love and breakup letter methodology (LBM) is a technique that has been used extensively in user experience technology-based research but has not previously been used in evaluating medical education tools. LBM asks participants to creatively write a "love" or "breakup" letter to a product under study to capture their thoughts and emotions when engaging with it.

Silicon (Si) and biochar (Bc) are key signaling conditioners that improve plant metabolic processes and promote drought tolerance. However, the specific role of their integrative application under water restrictions on economical plants is not yet well understood. Two field experiments throughout 2018/2019 and 2019/2020 were conducted to examine the physio-biochemical modifications and yield attributes of borage plants mediated by Bc (9.

Background: Umbilical venous catheters (UVCs) or peripherally inserted central catheters (PICCs) are routinely inserted in preterm infants for total parenteral nutrition and medications. We aimed to examine whether the rates of severe intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH) or death vary among preterm infants receiving UVCs compared to PICCs.

Methods: This randomized controlled trial included preterm infants < 30 weeks gestation assigned after birth to either UVC placement group or PICC group.
