Through this commentary, we attempt to evaluate the success of the Algerian legislature in developing a legal framework for the pharmaceutical industry that protects public health. The study is based on Algeria's national legal framework for the pharmaceutical industry, namely, legislation on health law and regulations on pharmaceutical activity. The study focuses on legal texts and uses the method of comparison whenever necessary.

Aim: To investigate the reduction in the serum level of cytokeratin-19 fragments (CYFRA 21-1), nucleosomes and neuron-specific enolase (NSE) as early measures of the response to chemotherapy in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC).

Methods: Forty-two consecutive patients with locally advanced NSCLC were included. All patients received platinum-based chemotherapy.

Background: HIV and hepatitis B virus (HBV) co-infected patients have a significantly increased risk of dying from liver disease especially after starting treatment with highly active antiretroviral therapy. We aim to determine the prevalence of hepatitis B surface antigenaemia in HIV-infected children and their significance in relation to hepatic functions.

Method: Two hundred and eighty four HIV-infected children aged between 4 mouths to 15 years attending the Paediatric infectious disease clinic of University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH) Maiduguri, Nigeria from September 2007 to December 2007 were the subject for this study.

Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) is a malignant disease of heampoitic stem cell resulting from clonal expansion of leukemic myeloid cells. Survivin is a recently identified member of the inhibitor of apoptosis protein family. The aim of the work is to analyze the expression of survivin in CML patient in chronic, accelerated and blastic phases and its correlation with other prognostic markers.
