A comparison of the healing capabilities of various grafting materials in critical-size defects in guinea pig calvaria.

Purpose: To estimate the efficacy of various bone grafting materials in the healing of 8-mm-diameter critical-size defects (CSD) in guinea pig calvaria.

Methods: In this randomized trial study, critical-size defects were created in the calvaria of 36 guinea pigs 6 months of age. Animals were assigned into three groups and each received one of three experimental protocols.

Effect of nonsurgical periodontal treatment on C-reactive protein levels in maintenance hemodialysis patients.

Objective: C-reactive protein (CRP) has been implicated as a possible mediator of the association between periodontitis and several systemic diseases. This study evaluated the impact of nonsurgical periodontal treatment on the serum levels of CRP in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients on hemodialysis.

Methods: A total of 77 CKD patients on hemodialysis were included in this study.
