Here we report a simultaneous construction of two C-C and two C-N bonds in a unified procedure that incorporates alkynoic acid trifunctionalization, ortho C-H functionalization, and amination cascade. In an ordered process, the regioselective alkyne insertion reaction is favored over the decarboxylation process. The presence of the carboxyl group in alkynoic acid ensures the high regioselectivity in the carbopalladation process, paving the way for a novel method to synthesize unsymmetrically 2,3-diaryl substituted indole scaffolds with excellent regioselectivity.

Due to the immense application of heterocyclic molecules in pharmaceuticals, natural products, and material chemistry, the synthesis of such scaffolds has received wide attention. The transformations occurred under metal-catalyzed, metal-free-promoted, and visible-light-mediated systems.

A palladium-catalyzed alkyne insertion/C-H activation/palladacycle amination via merger of three easily diversified components including iodoarenes, alkynes, and amines delivers indoles with different substitution patterns even in gram scales. By employing -bromoanilines, a consecutive annulative π-extension of indoles proceeds to construct indolo[1,2-]phenanthridine scaffolds via four C-C and C-N bond formations in one pot.

[Tl(μ-dcpa)] (2), [Hdcpa=2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid], is another supramolecular polymer which was synthesized by green sonochemical (2S) and mechanochemical (2M) processes. These two samples of 2 were also used for preparation of thallium nanomaterials.
