In 2015, the 62nd session of the Regional Committee [RC] of the Eastern Mediterranean Region [EMR] endorsed the Eastern Mediterranean Vaccine Action Plan 2016-2020 (EMVAP) that included postponement of the measles elimination target to before 2020. However, the EMR does not have a regional rubella control or elimination goal. Paqr9 is a gene encoding membrane progestin receptor e (mPRe), the fifth subtype of the five mPR subtypes, and is currently classified a member of the progestin and adipoQ receptor (PAQR) family, which consists of 11 genes. To elucidate the physiological functions of the mPR subtypes, we established gene knockout (KO) fish via genome editing of seven paqr genes in zebrafish and analyzed their phenotypes. The null-mutant strain of paqr9 (paqr9) that we established in this study presented reduced chorion elevation and a high percentage of abnormal embryos.

Data-Driven Response Regime Exploration and Identification (DR2EI) is a novel and fully data-driven method for identifying and classifying response regimes of a dynamical system without requiring human intervention. This approach is a valuable tool for exploring and discovering response regimes in complex dynamical systems, especially when the governing equations and the number of distinct response regimes are unknown, and the system is expensive to sample. The efficacy of ultra-high-pressure homogenisation (UHPH) in inactivating ATCC 27142 and ATCC 6633 spores suspended in sheep and cow milk was investigated. The UHPH treatment was conducted at 200 and 250 MPa with an inlet temperature of 85 °C, resulting in homogenising valve temperatures of 117 °C and 127 °C, respectively. To isolate the role of temperature and pressure in the inactivation of bacterial spores, the UHPH treatment was repeated at 250 MPa with a lower inlet temperature of 70 °C that resulted in a valve temperature of 117 °C.

We report the outcomes of the second session of the free online open-access workshop "Computational Applications in Secondary Metabolite Discovery (CAiSMD) 2022" that took place from 09 to 11 March 2022. The first session was held from 08 to 10 March 2021 and drew the attention of many early career scientists from academia and industry. Sub-10 µm microplastics (MPs) in aquatic environments pose significant ecological and health risks due to their mobility and potential to carry harmful microcontaminants. Our effluent analysis from a Hong Kong Sewage Treatment Works shows that traditional treatment often fails to effectively remove these MPs. These small-sized MPs are commonly neglected due to challenges in accurate quantification, analysis, and removal.

The oxidative desulfurization of dibenzothiophene in model and real fuel has been investigated by developing an environmentally sustainable catalyst HSiWO@f-kaolinite. The catalyst was synthesized by modifying kaolinite clay with (3-aminopropyl)triethoxysilane (f-kaolinite) followed by immobilizing silicotungstic acid hydrate (HSiWO) onto its surface. The successful synthesis of the catalyst was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, UV-visible spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscopy.
