The increase in heavy metal concentration in water bodies due to rapid industrial and socio-economic development significantly threatens ecological and human health. This study evaluated metal pollution and related risks to ecology and human health in the Maroon-Jarahi river sub-basin in the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea basin, southwest Iran, using various indicators. A total of 70 water samples were taken from the sampling sites in the Maroon, Allah, and Jarahi sub-basins and analyzed for nine heavy metals.

Rising water scarcity, together with increased industrial wastewater production, suggests reusing of wastewater for plant irrigation. The wastewater from Razi petrochemical complex contained different salts and heavy metals. Variation in responses to wastewater irrigation has recommended appropriate levels of mineral nutrients in diluted wastewater that stimulated plant growth, and toxic levels of salts in undiluted wastewater that restricted plant growth.

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the influence of the organophosphorus pesticide dimethoate and cadmium on biochemical parameters of a freshwater snail, Galba truncatula, in laboratory conditions.
