We have studied repositioning of carvedilol (an antihypertensive drug) incorporated into MCM-41 mesoporous silica. The repositioning proposes a reduction in the slow pace of discovery of new drugs, as well as toxicological safety and a significant reduction in high research costs, making it an attractive strategy for researchers and large pharmaceutical companies. We obtained MCM-41 bysynthesis and functionalized it by post-synthesis grafting with aminopropyltriethoxysilane (APTES) only or with folic acid (FA), which gave MCM-41-APTES and MCM-41-APTES-FA, respectively.

We aimed to characterise vaccine-induced protection against COVID-19 during five waves caused by Variants of Concern (VOCs). This is a nested case-control study of 3,972 HCW primarily vaccinated with CoronaVac (98%) that evaluated symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 breakthrough infections (BI) in almost two-years follow-up until the 3rd Omicron wave. Predictors of protection against SARS-CoV-2 BI were analysed using conditional logistic regression models.

Mesentery-Sparing Technique: a New Intracorporeal Approach for Urinary Diversion in Robot-Assisted Radical Cystectomy.

Background: Robotic-assisted radical cystectomy (RARC) with intracorporeal urinary diversion (ICUD) is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. We present an alternative technique that preserves the complete mesenteric vascularization during the isolation of the intestinal segment used in ICUD, including distal vessels. This approach aims to minimize the risk of ischemia in both the ileal anastomosis and the isolated loop at the diversion site.

Geographic variation of mutagenic exposures in kidney cancer genomes.

International differences in the incidence of many cancer types indicate the existence of carcinogen exposures that have not yet been identified by conventional epidemiology make a substantial contribution to cancer burden. In clear cell renal cell carcinoma, obesity, hypertension and tobacco smoking are risk factors, but they do not explain the geographical variation in its incidence. Underlying causes can be inferred by sequencing the genomes of cancers from populations with different incidence rates and detecting differences in patterns of somatic mutations.

Common Variable Immunodeficiency (CVID) is a primary immunodeficiency disorder characterized by B-cell dysfunction and immunoglobulin production deficiency. Dysregulation of interleukin-17 (IL-17) and its receptor IL-17RA have been reported in various immune disorders. This study aimed to investigate the expression of IL-17RA in innate immune cells of CVID patients and its correlation with clinical manifestations.

Objective: The aim of this study was to investigate the frequency of breakfast consumption and estimate its associations with the consumption of food at different degrees of industrial processing and with overweight indicators in Brazilian adolescents.

Methods: This cross-sectional study involved a probabilistic sample of 14- to 19-y-old adolescents enrolled in 29 public schools in the municipality of Juiz de Fora, MG, Southeast Brazil (n = 805). The frequency of breakfast consumption was evaluated via a questionnaire (classified into "do not consume", "sometimes consume", and "regularly consume").

Factors related to exclusive breastfeeding in the context of Primary Health Care.

Purpose: To identify factors related to exclusive breastfeeding up to the sixth month of life of babies in Primary Health Care services.

Methods: Quantitative, cross-sectional study, carried out with 261 mothers with 12-month-old babies, coming from health units in Porto Alegre. Data related to exclusive breastfeeding, sociodemographic characteristics, maternal mental health, family relationships and childcare follow-up were analyzed using t-tests, chi-square and Poisson regression model.

We describe a new synthetic methodology for the preparation of high quality, emission tuneable InP-based quantum dots (QDs) using a solid, air- and moisture-tolerant primary phosphine as a group-V precursor. Background: Health technology assessments (HTAs) of robotic assisted surgery (RAS) face several challenges in assessing the value of robotic surgical platforms. As a result of using different assessment methods, previous HTAs have reached different conclusions when evaluating RAS. While the number of available systems and surgical procedures is rapidly growing, existing frameworks for assessing MedTech provide a starting point, but specific considerations are needed for HTAs of RAS to ensure consistent results.

COVID-19 infection and vaccination in patients with hereditary angioedema: a multicentric study.

Due to similarities between the pathophysiological mechanisms of hereditary angioedema (HAE) and COVID-19, it has been hypothesized that SARS-CoV-2 infection may trigger HAE attacks or, alternatively, that HAE patients may experience different of COVID-19 disease severity. Furthermore, the potential for COVID-19 vaccination to trigger angioedema attacks in patients with HAE is still not completely defined. The objective is to characterize the exacerbations and clinical manifestations associated with COVID-19 infection and describe the adverse effects of COVID-19 vaccination in patients with HAE.
