Anxiolytic profile of fluoxetine as monitored following repeated administration in animal rat model of chronic mild stress.

Fluoxetine, a selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor (SSRI), has been proposed to be more effective as an antidepressive drug as compared to other SSRIs. After chronic SSRI administration, the increase in synaptic levels of 5-HT leads to desensitization of somatodentritic 5-HT autoreceptors in the raphe nuclei. Chronic stress may alter behavioral, neurochemical and physiological responses to drug challenges and novel stressors.

Impact of Non-Enzymatic Glycation in Neurodegenerative Diseases: Role of Natural Products in Prevention.

Non-enzymatic protein glycosylation is the addition of free carbonyls to the free amino groups of proteins, amino acids, lipoproteins and nucleic acids resulting in the formation of early glycation products. The early glycation products are also known as Maillard reaction which undergoes dehydration, cyclization and rearrangement to form advanced glycation end-products (AGEs). By and large the researchers in the past have also established that glycation and the AGEs are responsible for most type of metabolic disorders, including diabetes mellitus, cancer, neurological disorders and aging.

Calcitriol-copper interaction leads to non enzymatic, reactive oxygen species mediated DNA breakage and modulation of cellular redox scavengers in hepatocellular carcinoma.

Calcitriol is the metabolically active form of Vitamin D and is known to kill cancer cells. Using the rat model of DEN induced hepatocellular carcinoma we show that there is a marked increase in cellular levels of copper in hepatocellular carcinoma and that calcitriol-copper interaction leads to reactive oxygen species mediated DNA breakage selectively in hepatocellular carcinoma cells. In vivo studies show that calcitriol selectively induces severe fluctuations in cellular enzymatic and non enzymatic scavengers of reactive oxygen species in the malignant tissue.

Inflammation, white blood cell (WBC) adhesion to vascular endothelium with subsequent endothelial injury, and repeated ischemia-reperfusion injury contribute to disease pathogenesis. Identification of genetic polymorphisms that may modulate disease severity in SCD is becoming a field of interest.

Two methods were used to assess changes in crash risk at the intersections at which the red-light camera programme had been operating. Geospatial analysis was used to visualize trends in road crash density over the geographical region of Dammam and a pre--post-camera crash analysis was undertaken.

To further confirm our hypothesis in vivo, we induced hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in rats by diethylnitrosamine (DEN). We show that in such carcinoma cells, there is a progressive elevation in copper levels at various intervals after DEN administration.

Effect of gravity on clustering patterns and inertial particle attractors in kinematic simulations.

In this paper, we study the clustering of inertial particles using a periodic kinematic simulation. The systematic Lagrangian tracking of particles makes it possible to identify the particles' clustering patterns for different values of particle inertia and drift velocity. The different cases are characterized by different pairs of Stokes number (St) and Froude number (Fr).
