Outcomes after cataract extraction in young children with radiation-induced cataracts and retinoblastoma.

Background: An expected side effect of external beam radiation therapy for retinoblastoma is cataract formation, which impairs a child's visual development and an ophthalmologist's ability to examine the eye. When surgery is indicated, the potential complications can be vision-or life-threatening. Here we report the results of cataract extraction with intraocular lens placement in young children with retinoblastoma.

Purpose: To measure variations in diameter and location of Schlemm's canal in vivo by ultrasound biomicroscopy.

Design: Prospective, single-institution, consecutive case series.

Bartonella henselae neuroretinitis in a 15-year-old girl with chronic myelogenous leukemia.

A 15-year-old girl being treated with imatinib for chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML) presented with acute vision loss in her right eye accompanied by swelling of the right side of her neck. On examination, she was found to have disk and macular edema of the right eye. Fine-needle aspiration and excisional biopsies of an enlarged submandibular lymph node were negative for malignancy.

Conjunctival posttransplantation lymphoproliferative disorder.

Purpose: To describe a patient with conjunctival posttransplantation lymphoproliferative disorder (PTLD).

Design: Interventional case report.

Methods: A 8-year-old boy, three months status post bone marrow transplantation with bilateral enlarged gelatinous bulbar conjunctiva was examined.
