This study presents biomimetic nanoscaffolds composed of electrospun polycaprolactone-collagen (PCL-Coll) nanofibers, loaded with bioactive Arnebia euchroma (AE) extract and stem cells, to develop cell-based tissue engineering constructs. The incorporation of AE extract, known for its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, into the PCL-Coll nanofibers resulted in nanoscaffolds denoted as PCL-Coll/AE, PCL-Coll/AE, PCL-Coll/AE, and PCL-Coll/AE, corresponding to AE extract concentrations of 0.0, 5.

Article Synopsis
  • Scientists are studying a new compound called 2-mOPP that comes from pyrazine and can help treat cancer, especially in leukemia cells.
  • They tested how this compound affects the growth and survival of these cells over different times and amounts.
  • The results showed that 2-mOPP makes the leukemia cells stop growing and die by changing their cell cycle and triggering special genes related to cell death.

Cancer cells reprogram their metabolisms to achieve high energetic requirements and produce precursors that facilitate uncontrolled cell proliferation. Metabolic reprograming involves not only the dysregulation in glucose-metabolizing regulatory enzymes, but also the enzymes engaging in the lipid and amino acid metabolisms. Nevertheless, the underlying regulatory mechanisms of reprograming are not fully understood.

Ciprofloxacin derivatives belong to a family of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. Recently, these compounds have been recommended for the treatment of cancer. In the present study, we assessed the cytotoxicity of several new synthetic ciprofloxacin derivatives and the apoptosis-inducing activity of the most efficient derivative in two human myeloid leukemia K562 and KG1-a cell lines.
