Introduction And Importance: Follicular cystitis (FC) is a rare inflammatory disorder of the bladder that predominantly affects women. The exact cause of FC remains largely unknown, although it has been associated with inflammatory processes and bacterial infections, particularly following urinary tract infections. Regarding orphan diseases, like follicular cystitis, where large-scale trials seem virtually impossible, case reports find their place and guide the scientific community to find the best course of action.

pH induced structural and conformational changes in nucleocapsid protein leads to intermediate like conformation: a biophysical and computational approach.

Nucleocapsid protein (N) of SARS-CoV-2 is a multivalent protein, which is responsible for viral replication, assembly, packaging and modulates host immune response. In this study, we report conformational measurements of N protein at different pH by observing transition in secondary and tertiary structural contents by biophysical and computational approaches. Spectroscopic measurements revealed that N protein loses its secondary and tertiary structure at extreme acidic pH while maintaining its native conformation at mild acidic and alkaline pH.

Frequency of Acute Kidney Injury in Patients Admitted With Acute Stroke at Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar.

Background Patients hospitalized with acute stroke are at risk of developing acute kidney injury (AKI), and when both conditions occur together, patient outcomes are often worse. The relationship between stroke type, patient characteristics, and the development of AKI is not fully understood, particularly in tertiary care settings in Pakistan, where healthcare resources and patient characteristics may differ from Western populations. Objective To determine the frequency of AKI and identify associated risk factors, including stroke type, severity, and comorbidities, in patients presenting with acute stroke at a tertiary care center in Pakistan, the Hayatabad Medical Complex, Peshawar.

Assessment of anticoagulant safety and coagulation analysis in mice using the VETSCAN VSpro analyzer.

Animal models of thrombosis play a critical role in research, helping us understand the mechanisms of hemostasis and thrombus formation, as well as in the screening of anti-thrombotic drugs. This study aimed to evaluate the safety profile of two anticoagulants in murine research and to assess coagulation parameters, including prothrombin time (PT) and activated partial thromboplastin time (aPTT), using the VETSCAN VSpro coagulation analyzer in wild-type (C57BL/6) mice following administration of anticoagulants. Two experiments were conducted involving a total of sixty wild-type mice that received two common anticoagulants.

Auditory brainstem responses as a biomarker for cognition.

A non-invasive, accessible and effective biomarker is critical to the diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of age-related cognitive decline. Recent work has suggested a strong association between auditory brainstem responses (ABR) and cognitive function in aging macaques. Here we show in 118 human participants (66 females; age range=18-92 years; hearing loss = -5 to 70 dB HL) that cognition is associated with both age and hearing level, but this triad relationship is mainly driven by the age factor.

A successful case of vascular hitch procedure in adulthood: A simpler alternative for the vascular obstruction of the pyelo-ureteral junction.

Congenital obstruction of the upper urinary tract is often caused by the pyeloureteral junction syndrome, the lower polar vessel being the most common extrinsic etiology. We report on a case that was successfully treated using the Vascular HITCH, an alternative method with lower morbidity than Anderson and Hynes pyeloplasty considered the gold standard procedure. Our objective is to outline the aforementioned method and illustrate its ease of use and possible efficacy in carefully chosen adult patients.

Synthesis of novel pyridine and pyrazolyl pyridine conjugates with potent cytotoxicity against HepG2 cancer cells as PIM-1 kinase inhibitors and caspase activators.

A novel series of nicotinonitrile and pyrazolyl nicotinonitrile were synthesized, and their PIM-1 kinase inhibitors and caspase activators were investigated. New Manich bases 6-8 were synthesized reaction of pyridine 4 with piperidine, dimethyl amine, and morpholine in the presence of formalin. On the other hand, the pyrazolyl analogues 10-12 were synthesized heterocyclization of acetohydrazide derivative 9 with acetylacetone, malononitrile, and ethyl cyanoacetate, respectively, in ethanol.

Lumbar spine coronal balance parameters as a predictor of rehabilitation management outcomes in patients with radiculopathy due to lumbar disc herniation: A multicenter prospective case series study.

This prospective consecutive case series was conducted in 5 physiotherapy clinics in the UAE from January 2021-March 2023 to assess coronal lumbar spine radiographic parameters as a predictor of conservative therapy outcomes in patients suffering from low back and leg pain due to lumbar herniated nucleus pulposus (HNP). Ninety patients (mean age 44 yrs., 54 % male) with lumbar HNP underwent conservative therapy.

The inequitable psychological impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on post-secondary students with preexisting health conditions: A longitudinal study.

Evidence suggests young adults in post-secondary school experienced increased distress during the COVID-19 pandemic, but students' experiences likely varied. Effects may have also changed over time as students adapted. This study examined the mental health of students with and without preexisting health conditions at two points during the pandemic (winter 2020/2021 and spring/summer 2021).

Arresting Active Carious Lesions Using Minimal Intervention Dentistry among a Group of Preschool Children: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial.

Objectives: This clinical trial investigated the effectiveness of three minimal intervention dentistry protocols in arresting dentin caries in primary molars of preschool children. Treatment time, anxiety in children, adverse events, and parents' esthetic perception were all assessed.

Materials And Methods: One hundred thirty-five 3-5-year-old children with active dentin caries lesions on the occlusal surface of primary molars were randomly allocated to the control group receiving atraumatic restorative treatment (ART) and two test groups receiving 38% silver diamine fluoride (SDF) or ultraconservative treatment (UCT).

Optical coherence tomography in multiple sclerosis: A Tunisian tertiary center study.

Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study including MS patients aged between 18 and 60 years and a reference group of healthy, age- and gender-matched, control participants. A neurological examination with assessment of disability by the Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS), an ophthalmological examination, a spectral-domain OCT, and visual evoked potentials (VEP) were performed.

Introduction: We aimed to report the demographic data, clinical features, and management outcomes of patients with uveal melanoma (UM) in a single tertiary center in Egypt.

Methods: This is a single-center retrospective case series. Patients with UM who were managed at Cairo University Ocular Oncology Service between January 2019 and December 2023 were included.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the retention in care among a cohort of Egyptian people living with HIV (PLWHIV).

Method: The study was conducted on PLWHIV attending Kasr Alainy HIV and Viral Hepatitis Centre, Cairo, Egypt, from January 1, 2019, to March 31, 2023. PLWHIV were considered not retained in care if there was no documented clinical visit or HIV viral load (VL) or CD4 count test for more than 6 months from their last recorded visit or test.

Role of Supplementation with Selenium and Myo-Inositol Versus Selenium Alone in Patients of Autoimmune Thyroiditis: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Objective: The main objective was to assess the therapeutic efficacy of selenium alone versus a combination of myo-inositol and selenium (MI + Se) in treating patients with autoimmune thyroiditis (AIT). Coexistence Between Antiphospholipid Syndrome and Protein S Deficiency in a Patient With Transverse Sinus Thrombosis: A Rare Association.

Methods: 10 studies were retrieved from PubMed and Embase comparing outcomes between men and women admitted with AMI complicated by CS. Pooled log odds ratios (OR) were calculated for binary outcomes using the Mantel-Haenszel method, and Hedges' g with the inverse-variance method was used for continuous outcomes.
