General pattern of paediatric poisoning in Jordan during 2018-2019.

Introduction: Acute accidental poisoning in children remains a significant public health issue and a predictable cause of morbidity around the world. To take preventive measures, it is necessary to identify the pattern of this problem.

Objective: To determine the extent and characteristics of paediatric poisoning, an epidemiological investigation specific to each country is required.

SF 6 COMPARED WITH C 2 F 6 FOR INFERIOR RHEGMATOGENOUS RETINAL REPAIR : The Manchester Pseudophakic Retinal Detachment Study.

Purpose: To compare SF 6 relative with C 2 F 6 in the anatomical and functional outcomes following pars plana vitrectomy for uncomplicated primary pseudophakic rhegmatogenous retinal detachment with inferior causative breaks.

Methods: This is a retrospective, comparative study on eyes with pseudophakic rhegmatogenous retinal detachment with inferior causative breaks that had small-gauge pars plana vitrectomy repair using SF 6 and C 2 F 6 tamponade between 2011 and 2020 at a tertiary centre in the United Kingdom. Primary outcome was single surgery anatomical success, and the secondary outcome was best-corrected visual acuity.

Long-Term Safety and Efficacy of Pars Plana Vitrectomy for Uveitis: Experience of a Tertiary Referral Centre in the United Kingdom.

Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness of pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) without macular intervention on uveitis eyes with persistent vitreous inflammation/opacities in terms of visual acuity (VA), intraocular inflammation and macular profile.

Methods: We carried out a single-center retrospective study of patients with uveitic eyes that underwent PPV without intervention on the macula due to persistent vitreous inflammation/opacities. The primary outcome measures were best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), intraocular inflammation and macular profile at 3, 12 and 24 months after surgery.

The impact of 360-laser barricade on outcomes of vitrectomy for pseudophakic retinal detachment; The Manchester Pseudophakic Retinal Detachment Study.

Purpose: To investigate the anatomical and functional outcomes and specifically, the effect of 360-degree barrier-laser, in pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) for primary pseudophakic rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (PRD).

Methods: We conducted a single-centre retrospective, continuous and comparative study on eyes that had undergone PPV with focal-retinopexy (laser or cryotherapy) versus 360-laser for PRD repair between 2011-2020 at a single tertiary vitreoretinal centre in the UK. Primary outcomes were single surgery anatomical success (SSAS) rate and final postoperative visual acuity (VA).

OUTCOME OF REVISION PROCEDURES FOR FAILED PRIMARY MACULAR HOLE SURGERY.

Purpose: To analyze the outcomes of revision surgery for idiopathic full-thickness macular holes that have failed to close after primary surgery, and also to assess factors predicting success and to review the relative effect of adjunctive surgical techniques.

Methods: A multicenter retrospective study. Anatomical closure rates and visual acuity change between pre and postrevision surgery were assessed.

MANCHESTER REVISIONAL MACULAR HOLE STUDY: Predictive Value of Optical Coherence Tomography Parameters on Outcomes of Repeat Vitrectomy, Extension of Internal Limiting Membrane Peel, and Gas Tamponade for Persistent Macular Holes.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of repeat pars plana vitrectomy and gas tamponade for persistent macular holes (MHs), especially looking at a predictive value of optical coherence tomography parameters in revisional surgery.

Methods: Retrospective, nonrandomized interventional case series of consecutive patients with a persistent MH that underwent revisional pars plana vitrectomy and gas tamponade. The primary outcome measure was anatomical closure of the MH after revisional surgery.

Autoimmune Thyroid Disease and Keratoconus: Is There an Association?

Purpose: The association between autoimmune diseases and keratoconus (KC) has been proposed based on previous retrospective studies and case reports. The aim of our study is to investigate whether KC is associated with autoimmune thyroid disease A comparative study was conducted on 131 adult subjects from September 2015 to May 2017 at Jordan University Hospital, Amman, Jordan. Subjects were classified into 2 groups: subjects with autoimmune thyroid disease, including Graves' disease and Hashimoto's thyroiditis ( = 68), and a healthy group for comparison ( = 63).

Trans-epithelial corneal collagen cross-linking with iontophoresis for progressive keratoconus.

Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of trans-epithelial corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) with Iontophoresis among patients with progressive keratoconus.

Methods: It is a prospective interventional study, which is based on 41 eyes of 23 patients, suffering from progressive keratoconus and treated with trans-epithelial corneal cross-linking, using iontophoresis with ETDA and trometamol-enriched riboflavin 5 phosphates 0.1% hypotonic solution (Ricrolin+, Soot Italia SpA, Italy).

Frequency and types of skin disorders and associated diabetes mellitus in elderly Jordanians.

A retrospective study of 232 elderly patients seen between August 1998 and April 2000 at the skin clinic in Princess Haya hospital, Aqaba, was undertaken to determine the prevalence of skin disorders, and those most commonly associated with diabetes mellitus, in the elderly. Maternal smoking and breastfeeding.

A 2-month study was undertaken to investigate the effects of maternal smoking on breastfeeding. A total of 500 mothers were interviewed twice postpartum and information about maternal smoking and sociodemographic factors was collected. After adjustment for maternal smoking and other confounders, results suggested that smoking had a direct effect on breastfeeding.
