ROLE OF INCISURA ANGULARIS BIOPSY IN GASTRITIS STAGING AND RISK ASSESSMENT OF GASTRIC CÂNCER.

Background: Gastric atrophy (GA) and intestinal metaplasia (IM) are early stages in the development of gastric cancer. Evaluations are based on the Updated Sydney System, which includes a biopsy of the incisura angularis (IA), and the Operative Link on Gastritis Assessment (OLGA) and Operative Link on Gastritis Assessment using Intestinal Metaplasia (OLGIM) gastric cancer risk staging systems.

Objective: To compare the OLGA and OLGIM classifications with and without IA biopsy.

TIME TRENDS OF HELICOBACTER PYLORI PREVALENCE IN ITAJAÍ - SC: A RETROSPECTIVE STUDY OF 25 YEARS BASED ON ENDOSCOPIC DATABASE.

Background: The bacterium Helicobacter pylori is strongly associated with the development of gastric adenocarcinoma. Currently, the prevalence in developed countries is 40%, but this value increases considerably in developing countries, which can reach rates bigger than 90%.

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the mean and annual prevalence of Helicobacter pylori infection in patients from Itajaí during the period from July 1992 to April 2016, as well as the gender and age groups most affected.

Study of risk factors for gastric cancer by populational databases analysis.

Aim: To study the association between the incidence of gastric cancer and populational exposure to risk/protective factors through an analysis of international databases.

Methods: Open-access global databases concerning the incidence of gastric cancer and its risk/protective factors were identified through an extensive search on the Web. As its distribution was neither normal nor symmetric, the cancer incidence of each country was categorized according to ranges of percentile distribution.
