Leaf angle, as one of the important agronomic traits of maize, can directly affect the planting density of maize, thereby affecting its yield. Here we used the ZmLPA1 gene mutant lpa1 to study maize leaf angle and found that the lpa1 leaf angle changed significantly under exogenous brassinosteroid (BR) treatment compared with WT (inbred line B73). Transcriptome sequencing of WT and lpa1 treated with different concentrations of exogenous BR showed that the differentially expressed genes were upregulated with auxin, cytokinin and brassinosteroid; Genes associated with abscisic acid are down-regulated.

Ubiquitin/proteasome-mediated proteolysis (UPP) plays a crucial role in almost all aspects of plant growth and development, proteasome subunit RPN10 mediates ubiquitination substrate recognition in the UPP process. The recognition pathway of ubiquitinated UPP substrate is different in different species, which indicates that the mechanism and function of are different in different species. However, the homologous in maize has not been studied.

Article Synopsis
  • Bacterial leaf pustule (BLP), caused by the pathogen Xanthomonas axonopodis pv. glycines (Xag), affects soybeans globally, especially in warm and humid areas, but the genetic mechanisms behind resistance are poorly understood.
  • Researchers utilized linkage mapping and a genome-wide association study (GWAS) to identify key quantitative trait loci (QTLs) and quantitative trait nucleotides (QTNs) associated with BLP resistance in soybeans, finding significant variations in resistance attributed to three major QTLs and numerous QTNs across various chromosomes.
  • Real-time RT-PCR analysis indicated that a specific candidate gene showed increased expression in a resistant soybean cultivar (W82) when exposed to Xag,

Soybean pubescence plays an important role in insect resistance, drought tolerance, and other stresses. Hence, a deep understanding of the molecular mechanism underlying pubescence is a prerequisite to a deeper understanding of insect resistance and drought tolerance. In the present study, quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping of pubescence traits was performed using a high-density inter-specific linkage map of one recombinant inbred line (RIL) population, designated NJRINP.

Background: Seed flooding stress is one of the threatening environmental stressors that adversely limits soybean at the germination stage across the globe. The knowledge on the genetic basis underlying seed-flooding tolerance is limited. Therefore, we performed a genome-wide association study (GWAS) using 34,718 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNPs) in a panel of 243 worldwide soybean collections to identify genetic loci linked to soybean seed flooding tolerance at the germination stage.

The time to flowering (DF), pod beginning (DPB), seed formation (DSF), and maturity initiation (DMI) in soybean ( [L.] Merr) are important characteristics of growth stage traits (GSTs) in Chinese summer-sowing soybean, and are influenced by genetic as well as environmental factors. To better understand the molecular mechanism underlying the initiation times of GSTs, we investigated four GSTs of 309 diverse soybean accessions in six different environments and Best Linear Unbiased Prediction values.

Unlabelled: Mature pod color (PC) and pod size (PS) served as important characteristics are used in the soybean breeding programs. However, manual phenotyping of such complex traits is time-consuming, laborious, and expensive for breeders. Here, we collected pod images from two different populations, namely, a soybean association panel (SAP) consisting of 187 accessions and an inter-specific recombinant inbred line (RIL) population containing 284 RILs.

Seed-flooding stress is one of the major abiotic constraints severely affecting soybean yield and quality. Understanding the molecular mechanism and genetic basis underlying seed-flooding tolerance will be of greatly importance in soybean breeding. However, very limited information is available about the genetic basis of seed-flooding tolerance in soybean.

Seed-weight is one of the most important traits determining soybean yield. Hence, it is prerequisite to have detailed understanding of the genetic basis regulating seed-weight for the development of improved cultivars. In this regard, the present study used high-density interspecific linkage map of NJIR4P recombinant inbred population evaluated in four different environments to detect stable Quantitative trait loci (QTLs) as well as mine candidate genes for 100-seed weight.

Plant height (PH) and the number of nodes on the main stem (NN) serve as major plant architecture traits affecting soybean seed yield. Although many quantitative trait loci for the two traits have been reported, their genetic controls at different developmental stages in soybeans remain unclear. Here, 368 soybean breeding lines were genotyped using 62,423 single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers and phenotyped for the two traits at three different developmental stages over two locations in order to identify their quantitative trait nucleotides (QTNs) using compressed mixed linear model (CMLM) and multi-locus random-SNP-effect mixed linear model (mrMLM) approaches.

Soybean oil is the most widely produced vegetable oil in the world and its content in soybean seed is an important quality trait in breeding programs. More than 100 quantitative trait loci (QTLs) for soybean oil content have been identified. However, most of them are genotype specific and/or environment sensitive.
