Previously, we demonstrated that activated-leukocyte-cell-adhesion-molecule (ALCAM) is a prognostic factor in MM and inhibits EGF/EGFR-initiated MM clonogenicity. In this study, we further showed that the ALCAM-EGF/EGFR axis regulated the MM side population (SP)-mediated drug-resistance.

With an aim to developing a highly efficient polymeric binder to mitigate this capacity decay, we present a novel binder synthesized from polyacrylic acid (PAA) and polymerized β-cyclodextrin (β-CDp) for Si anodes for the lithium-ion batteries. This PAA-β-CDp binder has a 3D network structure, which provides strong adhesion between the active material and the current collector.

Based on this clinical observation, we found that estrogen cell signaling played a regulatory role in MM bone disease (MMBD), and the estrogen-responsive gene microtubule-associated serine/threonine kinase family member 4 (MAST4) was a critical factor. The presence of estrogen in cell cultures promoted MAST4 expression in MM cells, while knocking down estrogen receptor 1 (ESR1) inhibited MAST4 expression.

Human 53BP1 is primarily known as a key player in regulating DNA double strand break (DSB) repair choice; however, its involvement in other biological process is less well understood. Here, we report a previously uncharacterized function of 53BP1 at heterochromatin, where it undergoes liquid-liquid phase separation (LLPS) with the heterochromatin protein HP1α in a mutually dependent manner. Deletion of 53BP1 results in a reduction in heterochromatin centers and the de-repression of heterochromatic tandem repetitive DNA.

Recently, we demonstrated potential anti-inflammatory effects of sorbicillinoids isolated from marine fungi. Here, we report the synthesis of a series of new sorbicillinoid analogues and assessed their anti-inflammatory activities. Our results reveal that side chain substitution with (E)-2-butenoyl, (E)-3-(4-fluorophenyl)-2-propenoyl, and (E)-3-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)-2-propenoyl significantly enhanced the inhibitory effects of the derivatives on nitric oxide (NO) production and inducible NO synthesis (iNOS) expression stimulated by lipopolysaccharides (LPS) in mouse macrophage.

It is characterized by abnormal transformation and uncontrolled clonal proliferation of malignant plasma cells in the bone marrow (BM), which can destroy bone structure and inhibit hematopoiesis. Although there are new therapeutic methods, they are not curative, mainly because it is difficult to deliver an effective amount of drug to BM, leading to a failure to eradicate MM cells inside the BM.

Methods: This was a retrospective analysis of twenty-three NPC stage III-IVA patients treated with IMRT + Endostar or IMRT + CCT. Patients in the IMRT + Endostar group (n=10) received a total of 2 cycles of Endostar, while patients in the IMRT + CCT group (n=13) received a total of 3 cycles of concurrent cisplatin chemotherapy.
Recent studies have revealed great functional and structural heterogeneity in the ribbon-type synapses at the basolateral pole of the isopotential inner hair cell (IHC). This feature is believed to be critical for audition over a wide dynamic range, but whether the spatial gradient of ribbon morphology is fine-tuned in each IHC and how the mitochondrial network is organized to meet local energy demands of synaptic transmission remain unclear. By means of three-dimensional electron microscopy and artificial intelligence-based algorithms, we demonstrated the cell-wide structural quantification of ribbons and mitochondria in mature mid-cochlear IHCs of mice.
