Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the role of circUBE2D2 in promoting ovarian cancer progression by upregulating HMGB1 and inhibiting miR-885-5p.
  • Researchers used various assays to assess cell functions, confirming that circUBE2D2 acts as a sponge for miR-885-5p, which directly targets HMGB1.
  • Findings suggest that targeting circUBE2D2 may offer a novel treatment approach for ovarian cancer by reducing tumor growth and altering cell behaviors.

  • Zhi-zi-chi decoction, made from two herbs, is used in traditional Chinese medicine to help with depression and mood problems.
  • Scientists want to find out how this medicine works in the body, especially how it affects tiny bacteria in your gut that might help with depression.
  • They developed a new method to study how different factors in health and diet influence the effects of this medicine and tested it on rats to see how it impacts gut bacteria and depression.

Article Synopsis
  • Multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are being studied for their potential use in drug delivery and medical imaging, but their impact on blood vessel cells (endothelial cells) hasn't been fully understood.
  • The research revealed that MWCNTs can enter these cells and disrupt their functions, specifically hindering their ability to form new blood vessels (angiogenesis) in both lab and animal studies.
  • The study found that the harmful effects of MWCNTs on endothelial cells are linked to decreased levels of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), but introducing recombinant VEGF can help restore cell function and promote angiogenesis.

is a famous functional food and herb. To guarantee quality of a strategy "Q-markers targeted screening" was successfully developed by sufficient extraction of compounds and the targeted screening of qualitative and quantitative markers calculated through chemometric methods based fingerprints. Accelerated solvent extraction was selected due to its prominent advantages exhibiting the maximum extraction yields and varieties of compounds and especially excellent reproducibility (RSD < 1).

Article Synopsis
  • New research shows that long non-coding RNA LINC01503 is found at higher levels in cervical cancer tissues, suggesting it plays a role in disease progression.
  • Increased LINC01503 expression correlates with more advanced cancer stages, greater tumor metastasis to lymph nodes, and deeper tissue invasion.
  • Inhibiting LINC01503 reduces tumor cell invasion and growth, and this effect is linked to its interaction with miR-615-3p, which regulates its expression.

This study tested the hypothesis that endothelium-specific GTP cyclohydrolase I (GTPCH I) overexpression (Tg-GCH) restores age-associated endothelial dysfunction in vivo. Aortic GTPCH I expression and serum nitric oxide (NO) release were measured in young and aged mice. Aortic rings from young and aged wild-type (WT) mice and aged Tg-GCH mice were suspended for isometric tension recording.

Added risk portended by diabetes in addition to hypertension has been related to an amplification of endothelial dysfunction. β-blockers are widely used for cardiovascular diseases and improve the endothelial function compared with a placebo. However, the effect of β-blockers on the endothelial progenitor cells (EPCs) function in diabetes is still unknown.

Rationale: Diffusion of an analyte is one of the main determinants of reduced sensitivity in an electrospray ionization (ESI) source. In this work, the relative responses of compounds and their stable isotope-labeled (SIL) products in different injection modes were compared to investigate the diffusion behavior of analytes in ESI, without influence of other factors.

Methods: Chloramphenicol (CAP) and D5 -CAP as well as melamine (Mel) and (13) C3 -Mel were used to illustrate the diffusion behavior in different operation modes and different ion sources, by comparing their relative responses in infusion mode and flow injection analysis (FIA) mode under variable temperature.

Aim: To establish a clinical scoring model to predict risk of acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF) in chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients.

Methods: This was a retrospective study of 1457 patients hospitalized for CHB between October 2008 and October 2013 at the Beijing Ditan Hospital, Capital Medical University, China. The patients were divided into two groups: severe acute exacerbation (SAE) group (n = 382) and non-SAE group (n = 1075).

Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of integrative medical program based on blood cooling and detoxification recipe (BCDR) in treating patients with hepatitis B virus related acute-on-chronic liver failure (HBV-ACLF) of heat-toxicity accumulation syndrome (HTAS).

Methods: Adopting randomized controlled clinical design, a total of 105 HBV-ACLF patients of HTAS were randomly assigned to the trial group (64 cases) and the control group (41 cases). Patients in the control group were treated with comprehensive Western therapy, while those in the trial group were treated with comprehensive Western therapy plus BCDR.

A simple, rapid and sensitive chiral capillary zone electrophoresis coupled with acetonitrile-field-amplified sample stacking method was developed that allows the simultaneous enantioselective separation of the mirtazapine, N-demethylmirtazapine, 8-hydroxymirtazapine and mirtazapine-N-oxide. The separation was achieved on an uncoated 40.2 cm×75 μM fused silica capillary with an applied voltage of 16 kV.
