, a new species of Asteraceae from the Xizang (Tibet) Autonomous Region of China, is described and illustrated here. Morphologically, it is most similar to but can be distinguished by the combination of monoecious and dioecious individuals, involucral bracts arranged in 3-5 series (with outer series herbaceous and middle to inner series membranous), fimbriate apices on female florets, rough-edged lobes on male florets, and achenes lacking costae. Phylogenetic analyses further support the separation of this new species from related taxa.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare ocular biometric measurements using SS-OCT and Scheimpflug tomography in cataract patients before surgery.
  • A total of 212 eyes were analyzed, measuring various parameters like corneal thickness and keratometry with different devices, assessing their reliability and correlation.
  • Results showed significant differences in most measurements among devices, indicating that results from IOLMaster700, CASIA2, and Pentacam are not interchangeable.

Introduction: The purpose of the study was to explore the possible correlations between the anterior segment parameters derived from anterior segment swept-source optical coherence tomography (AS-SS-OCT) with the surgically induced corneal astigmatism (CSIA) calculated from total keratometry (TK) measured by AS-SS-OCT.

Methods: Seventy-one eyes of 67 patients with age-related cataract who underwent phacoemulsification combined with intraocular lens implantation with 2.2-mm incision were included.

To systematically evaluate the safety and efficacy of docetaxel plus S-1-based therapy in gastric cancer treatment. PubMed, Embase, The Cochrane Library, and Web of Science electronic databases were searched for randomized controlled trials on docetaxel plus S-1-based therapy in the treatment of gastric cancer from the establishment of the database to 1 September 2022. Relevant studies were included per pre-defined eligibility criteria, and two researchers independently screened and assessed the included literature using Review Manager v5.

Purpose: To compare the performance of Barrett toric calculator incorporated with measured posterior corneal astigmatism (PCA) derived from IOL Master 700 and Pentacam HR versus predicted PCA.

Methods: The predicted residual astigmatism using Barrett toric IOL calculator with predicted PCA, measured PCA from IOL Master 700 and measured PCA from Pentacam were calculated with the preoperative keratometry and intended IOL axis with modification. The vector analysis was performed to calculate the mean absolute prediction error (MAE), the centroid of the prediction error and the percentage of eyes with a prediction error within ±0.

To investigate neuroprotective effects of total saponins from Trillium tschonoskii Maxim (TST) on vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) rats through inflammatory body of the NOD-like body protein 3 (NLRP3) regulated by endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS). SD rats were divided into sham-operated group (SHAM), model group (VCI, bilateral neck arterial ligation (BCCAO) method), TST intervention group (TST, 100 mg/kg), and positive group (donepezil hydrochloride, 0.45 mg/kg ), continuous administration for 4 weeks.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers collected spiders from the Lüliang Mountains in China, marking the first instance of this genus being documented there.
  • Phylogenetic analysis using various DNA sequences categorized the spiders into nine clades, indicating they are distinct species.
  • Among these, one species was previously identified, while the other eight are new to science, all sharing close geographical locations and morphological similarities.

To investigate the protective effects and mechanisms of the polysaccharide from (BIH) on liver injury induced by D-galactose in rats. Sixty male SD rats were randomly divided into 5 groups: the control group (=12), the D-gal group (=12), the BIH-L treatment group (D-gal+50 mg/kg BIH, =12), the BIH-M treatment group (D-gal+100 mg/kg BIH, =12), and the BIH-H treatment group (D-gal+200 mg/kg BIH, =12). The rats were injected into the back of the neck with D-gal of 100 mg/kg/d subcutaneously except for the control group.

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a severe traumatic lesion of central nervous system (CNS) with only a limited number of restorative therapeutic options. Diosgenin glucoside (DG), a major bioactive ingredient of Max., possesses neuroprotective effects through its antioxidant and anti-apoptotic functions.

The occurrence and progression of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) are affected by complicated signal transduction factors. Our previous study identified Ikaros as a novel reactivated therapeutic target that acts as a transcriptional repressor and reactivates anticancer mechanisms in HCC therapy. Annexin A4 (ANXA4) is a member of the Annexin family that plays an essential role in several cancers, but it has not been investigated in HCC proliferation.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common malignant tumor in the world, especially in China. As a member of the inhibitor of differentiation (Id) family, Id4 has been reported to function in many cancer types, but relatively little is known about its role in HCC. The purpose of this study was to investigate the potential relationship between Id4 and HCC development and the underlying mechanism involving the function of Id4 in HCC.

To investigate the association between store-operated Ca entry (SOCE) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) during hypoxia, this study determined the changes of transient receptor potential canonical 1 (TRPC1) and Orai1, two candidate proteins for store-operated Ca (SOC) channels and their gate regulator, stromal interaction molecule 1 (STIM1), in a hypoxic environment and their relationship with ROS in pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells (PASMCs). Exposure to hypoxia caused a transient Ca spike and subsequent Ca plateau of SOCE to be intensified in PASMCs when TRPC1, STIM1, and Orai1 were upregulated. SOCE in cells transfected with specific short hairpin RNA (shRNA) constructs was almost completely eliminated by the knockdown of TRPC1, STIM1, or Orai1 alone and was no longer affected by hypoxia exposure.

CD133 is a cellular surface glycoprotein that has been reported as a marker for the enrichment of cancer stem cells (CSCs). However, the regulatory mechanism of CD133 remains unknown. CSCs have been proposed to contribute to radioresistance and multi-drug resistance.
