Background: In patients hospitalized in intensive care units (ICU), Candida infections are associated with increased morbidity, mortality and costs. However, previous studies reported confused risk factors for catheter-related Candida bloodstream infection (CRCBSI). The objective was to describe the risk factors, microbiology, management and outcomes of CRCBSI in the China-SCAN population.

This polymer showed a number-average molecular weight (Mn) of 200,000 and had good solubility and film-forming ability. After being postpolymerized at high temperature (>200 °C), the polymer film converted to a cross-linked network structure, which was insoluble in the common organic solvents.

Objective: To establish a method based on repetitive protein sequences and linear B cell epitope to predict and screen specific peptides of Plasmodium vivax.
Methods: A P. vivax protein sequence database was reconstructed based on PlasmoDB data, and a customized software for searching of repetitive sequences was used to count the repetition times of each 16 aa peptide in the whole database, and the highly repetitive peptides were chosen to predict the potential linear B cell epitopes.

Objective: To construct recombinant Mycobacterium smegmatis vaccine expressing Cysticercus cellulosae cC1 antigen.
Methods: The recombinant pET28a-cC1 plasmid was extracted and double digested by Xho I and BamH I restriction enzymes, and shuttle plasmid pMV261 was extracted and double digested by Hind III and BamH I restriction enzymes. Both fragments were modified by Klenow fragment to form blunt end, then the large fragments of cC1 and pMV261 plasmid were purified and ligated by T4 ligase enzyme.
Fiber lasers have seen progressive developments in terms of spectral coverage and linewidth, output power, pulse energy, and ultrashort pulse width since the first demonstration of a glass fiber laser in 1964. Their applications have extended into a variety of fields accordingly. In this paper, the milestones of glass fiber laser development are briefly reviewed and recent advances of high-power continuous wave, Q-switched, mode-locked, and single-frequency fiber lasers in the 1, 1.

Objective: To determine whether the change of blood glucose in the early stage of septic rat is associated with the alteration of AMPKα protein expression and GLUT4 protein translocation expression.
Methods: Animal models of sepsis were induced by tail vein injection of LPS in Wistar rats.

In order to realize an individualized and specialized rehabilitation assessment of remoteness and intelligence, we set up a remote intelligent assessment system of upper limb movement function of post-stroke patients during rehabilitation. By using the remote rehabilitation training sensors and client data sampling software, we collected and uploaded the gesture data from a patient's forearm and upper arm during rehabilitation training to database of the server. Then a remote intelligent assessment system, which had been developed based on the extreme learning machine (ELM) algorithm and Brunnstrom stage assessment standard, was used to evaluate the gesture data.

Objective: To investigate the effects of Plasmodium vivax merozoite surface protein 1 (PvMSP1) on differentiation, maturation and function of dendritic cells (DC) and the mechanisms of PvMSP1 on the activation of DC via toll like receptors (TLR).
Methods: DCs were incubated with different doses of PvMSP1 (1.0, 10.
Based on the incremental nature of knowledge acquisition, in this study we propose a growing self-organizing neural network approach for modeling the acquisition of auditory and semantic categories. We introduce an Interconnected Growing Self-Organizing Maps (I-GSOM) algorithm, which takes associations between auditory information and semantic information into consideration, in this paper. Direct phonetic-semantic association is simulated in order to model the language acquisition in early phases, such as the babbling and imitation stages, in which no phonological representations exist.

It is recognized as a serious problem in Plasmodium falciparum-endemic sub-Saharan Africa, where recent data suggests that it is more common than previously believed. In such regions where malaria transmission is high, neonates may be protected from disease caused by congenital malaria through the transfer of maternal antibodies against the parasite.

The developed procedure has been successfully applied to the asymmetric synthesis of antidepressant drugs (R)-fluoxetine and (S)-duloxetine, which highlighted its synthetic utility.

The seed source is an acousto-optic Q-switched fiber laser with a varied pulse duration and repetition rate. The output power of the oscillator is ~1 W, and two double-cladding Yb-doped fiber amplifiers were used to boost the average power of the seed.

Objective: To understand the deltamethrin resistance level, GTS and P450 metabolic detoxification enzyme activities, and mutations in the para-type sodium channel gene that confers knockdown resistance (kdr) in Anopheles sinensis mosquitoes from malaria endemic areas along the Huaihe River in Anhui Province, China.
Methods: An. sinensis adult mosquitoes were collected in Lilou, Mohekou and Tuohu townships of Bengbu City, Anhui Province from August to September, 2011.
Objectives: The objectives of this study were to determine species distribution and in vitro antifungal susceptibility of Candida isolates identified in the multicentre China-SCAN study of invasive Candida infection (ICI) in intensive care units (ICUs) across China.
Methods: Candida isolates from patients in the China-SCAN study with documented ICI were evaluated by a central laboratory. Species were identified using chromogenic culture media or the API 20C AUX kit.

Objective: To study the effect of mosquito age on the pyrethroid resistance and P450 monooxygenase activity in Anopheles sinensis in Huainan City, Anhui Province, China, as well as the molecular mechanism of pyrethroid resistance.
Methods: Anopheles mosquito larvae were collected in fields, and were emerged to adults. Then the pyrethroid resistance and P450 monooxygenase activity of female mosquitoes were detected 1, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15 d and 20 d after emergence.
Community studies have shown that plant species are often pollinated by multiple pollinators; however, networks of heterospecific pollen transfer (HPT) in natural communities remain largely unexplored. We analyzed pollen deposition on stigmas of 57 flowering species to build a picture of plant-plant interactions via HPT in a biodiverse alpine meadow in southwest China. Plant species were categorized as pollen donors or recipients by their link numbers and link qualities.
