The level of pyrophosphatase (PPase) expression has been suggested as a potential biomarker of various cancers, and its prognostic value has been evaluated in patients suffering from lung cancer, colorectal cancer, and hyperthyroidism. However, the detection of PPase usually needs specific materials that require complicated, time-consuming reactions with restricted linear range and sensitivity, limiting their application in early clinical diagnosis. Herein, we developed a DNAzyme-based biosensor for the detection of PPase.

Sacrifiers-promoted photocatalysis is a useful way to achieve high efficiency photoreduction and photocatalytic hydrogen production for photocatalysts of weak reductive power such as TiO. Herein we report a new method to fabricate a unique dyadic hybrid consisting of closely compacted crystalline (anatase) and titanium glycerolate (TiG)-derived organic group-retained amorphous nanoparticles to validate adsorption-stored sacrifiers-promoted photocatalysis instead of using sacrifiers in bulk solution. It was found that ascorbic acid (AA)-modified TiG prepared at a small fraction of glycerol, characterized by peculiar cocoon/open nanocontainer-type morphologies, varieties of oxygen containing groups, and remarkably high specific surface area, is suitable for precursing such hybrids.

G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) are a target for over 34% of current drugs. The calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR), a family C GPCR, regulates systemic calcium (Ca) homeostasis that is critical for many physiological, calciotropical, and noncalciotropical outcomes in multiple organs. However, the mechanisms by which extracellular Ca (Ca) and the CaSR mediate networks of intracellular Ca-signaling and players involved throughout the life cycle of CaSR are largely unknown.

Multimodal medical image segmentation is always a critical problem in medical image segmentation. Traditional deep learning methods utilize fully CNNs for encoding given images, thus leading to deficiency of long-range dependencies and bad generalization performance. Recently, a sequence of Transformer-based methodologies emerges in the field of image processing, which brings great generalization and performance in various tasks.

As RNA chaperones, cold shock proteins (CSPs) are essential for cold adaptation. Although the functions of CSPs in cold response have been demonstrated in several species, the roles of CSPs in response to drought are largely unknown. Here, we demonstrated that MdCSP3, a downstream target gene of MdMYB88 and MdMYB124, contributes to drought tolerance in apple (Malus × domestica).

MYB transcription factors play essential roles in regulating plant secondary metabolism and jasmonate (JA) signaling. Putrescine N-methyltransferase is a key JA-regulated step in the biosynthesis of nicotine, an alkaloidal compound highly accumulated in Nicotiana spp. Here we report the identification of NtMYB305a in tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum) as a regulatory component of nicotine biosynthesis and demonstrate that it binds to the JA-responsive GAG region, which comprises a G-box, an AT-rich motif, and a GCC-box-like element, in the NtPMT1a promoter.

The limitation of projection microstereolithography in additive manufacturing methods is that they typically use a single-aperture imaging configuration, which restricts their ability to produce microstructures in large volumes owing to the trade-off between image resolution and image field area. Here, we propose an integral lithography based on integral image reconstruction coupled with a planar lens array. The individual microlenses maintain a high numerical aperture and are used to create digital light patterns that can expand the printable area by the number of microlenses (10 to 10), thereby allowing for the scalable stereolithographic fabrication of 3D features that surpass the resolution-to-area scaling limit.

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is common in patients undergoing dialysis. However, the association between anti-diabetic drug use and survival outcomes is rarely discussed. We aimed to investigate whether continued anti-diabetic medication use affects the survival of diabetic dialysis patients and whether different hypoglycemic drug use influences prognosis.

Microphysiological systems (MPS), comprising human cell cultured in formats that capture features of the three-dimensional (3D) microenvironments of native human organs under microperfusion, are promising tools for biomedical research. Here we report the development of a mesoscale physiological system (MePS) enabling the long-term 3D perfused culture of primary human hepatocytes at scales of over 10cells per MPS. A central feature of the MePS, which employs a commercially-available multiwell bioreactor for perfusion, is a novel scaffold comprising a dense network of nano- and micro-porous polymer channels, designed to provide appropriate convective and diffusive mass transfer of oxygen and other nutrients while maintaining physiological values of shear stress.

In this Letter, we theoretically propose and experimentally demonstrate a three-dimensional soundproof acoustic cage structure, hereby denoted as an acoustic metacage. The metacage is composed of six acoustic metamaterial slabs with open holes and hidden bypass space coiling tunnels connected to the holes. Band structure analysis reveals a novel physical mechanism to open a low-frequency broad partial band gap via the band folding in other directions, which can also be interpreted by an effective medium with indefinite effective mass density and negative effective modulus.

Multi-scale calcium (Ca ) dynamics, exhibiting wide-ranging temporal kinetics, constitutes a ubiquitous mode of signal transduction. We report a novel endoplasmic-reticulum (ER)-targeted Ca indicator, R-CatchER, which showed superior kinetics in vitro (k ≥2×10  s , k ≥7×10  M  s ) and in multiple cell types. R-CatchER captured spatiotemporal ER Ca dynamics in neurons and hotspots at dendritic branchpoints, enabled the first report of ER Ca oscillations mediated by calcium sensing receptors (CaSRs), and revealed ER Ca -based functional cooperativity of CaSR.

Electrodermal devices that capture the physiological response of skin are crucial for monitoring vital signals, but they often require convoluted layered designs with either electronic or ionic active materials relying on complicated synthesis procedures, encapsulation, and packaging techniques. Here, we report that the ionic transport in living systems can provide a simple mode of iontronic sensing and bypass the need of artificial ionic materials. A simple skin-electrode mechanosensing structure (SEMS) is constructed, exhibiting high pressure-resolution and spatial-resolution, being capable of feeling touch and detecting weak physiological signals such as fingertip pulse under different skin humidity.

Evaporation-induced particle aggregation in drying droplets is of significant importance in the prevention of pathogen transfer due to the possibility of indirect fomite transmission of the infectious virus particles. In this study, particle aggregation was directionally controlled using contact line dynamics (pinned or slipping) and geometrical gradients on microstructured surfaces by the systematic investigation of the evaporation process on sessile droplets and sprayed microdroplets laden with virus-simulant nanoparticles. Using this mechanism, we designed robust particle capture surfaces by significantly inhibiting the contact transfer of particles from fomite surfaces.

Norfloxacin, a kind of antibiotic frequently detected in environments, represents a group of non-persistent organic pollutants with latent risks to the ecosystem. Iron ore waste, generated and accumulated in large quantities from the iron/steel industry, was evaluated as a potential sorbent for norfloxacin removal. Kinetics analysis showed that the adsorption process reached equilibrium at 72 h, and the adsorption process could be best defined by the pseudo-second-order kinetics with the primary mechanism of norfloxacin adsorption suggested to be cation exchange.

Ammonia (NH) is the most important alkaline gas in the atmosphere and plays a central role in atmospheric pollution and the global N cycle. Water bodies receive increasing nitrogen inputs from effluents and atmospheric deposition due to anthropogenic activities and are regarded as the major natural NH and NH sinks. In this work, floating dynamic flux chambers were deployed at four types of freshwater (rivers, large reservoirs, medium-sized reservoirs and ponds) systems and a coastal seawater system to estimate the water-air NH emission fluxes.
