We investigated the mechanism of action of atropine in myopia control by examining its effect on choroidal hemodynamics. Blood flow was evaluated using indocyanine green (ICG) fluorescence and molecular variation during the development of form-deprivation myopia (FDM) and atropine treatment in guinea pigs. Guinea pigs were divided randomly into the normal control (NC), FDM, and FDM + 1% atropine (ATR) groups, and evaluated by spherical equivalent refractive error (SE) and axial length (AL).

Carbon emissions quotas (CEQ) and energy quotas (EQ) have been recognized as effective policy tools for promoting energy conservation and emission reduction. However, existing methods have considerable limitations in meeting the phased requirements of carbon peaking constraints and synergistically allocating EQ and CEQ. Therefore, we propose a synergistic allocation method for CEQ and EQ to balance economic development and environmental sustainability under carbon peak constraints.

In smoggy and dusty environments, vision- and laser-based localization methods are not able to be used effectively for controlling the movement of a robot. Autonomous operation of a security robot can be achieved in such environments by using millimeter wave (MMW) radar for the localization system. In this study, an approximate center method under a sparse point cloud is proposed, and a security robot localization system based on millimeter wave radar is constructed.

The purpose of this study was to design nanocarriers with small-size and antioxidant properties for the effective encapsulation of curcumin. Here, procyanidins, vanillin, and amino acids were used to successfully prepare nanocarriers of a controllable size in the range of 328~953 nm and to endow antioxidant ability based on a one-step self-assembly method. The reaction involved a Mannich reaction on the phenolic hydroxyl groups of procyanidins, aldehyde groups of vanillin, and amino groups of amino acids.

Aims: This study aimed to evaluate image quality, myocardial perfusion, and diagnostic performance of a novel [F]F-labeled PET tracer, XTR004 PET, myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI) compared with [N]Ammonia (NH) PET MPI.

Methods And Results: Forty-seven patients with suspected or known coronary artery disease (CAD) were prospectively enrolled to undergo one-day rest/ATP-stress XTR004 and NH electrocardiograph-gated PET imaging within 2 weeks. Among them, twenty-six patients underwent invasive coronary angiography (ICA), and nineteen were identified with flow-limited CAD (stenosis ≥ 70%).

Ebola and Marburg (EBOV and MARV) filoviral infections lead to fatal hemorrhagic fevers and have caused over 30 outbreaks in the last 50 years. Currently, there are no FDA-approved small molecule therapeutics for effectively treating filoviral diseases. To address this unmet medical need, we have conducted a systematic structural optimization of an early lead compound, -(4-(4-methylpiperidin-1-yl)-3-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)-4-(morpholinomethyl)benzamide (), borne from our previously reported hit-to-lead effort.

Objectives: This study aimed to examine the causal relationships between peripheral immune cell counts and prostate cancer, adhering to Mendelian Randomization reporting guidelines for transparency and reproducibility.

Methods: In this study, bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis, which includes MR-Egger, weighted median, weighted mode, and inverse variance weighted (IVW) approaches, was utilized to evaluate the bidirectional causal relationship between peripheral immune cell counts and the risk of PCa.

Results: The primary analysis using the IVW method suggests a potential causal association between basophil counts and the risk of prostate cancer (PCa), with an odds ratio (OR) of 1.

Oxidative potential (OP) of particulate matter (PM) is an important indicator of its health effects. However, the relationship between OP and its key influencing factors remains unclear. In this study, size-segregated PM samples were collected in Qingdao, China, with major components and OP of PM thoroughly examined.

Curcumin (Cur) has many potential applications in the food industry. However, it suffers from poor water solubility, low plasma and tissue uptake and susceptibility to oxidation. In this study, β-lactoglobulin (β-LG)-hyaluronic acid (HA) binary covalent complexes were prepared by ultrasound-assisted Maillard reaction and used as the carrier to deliver Cur.

Ocean warming (OW) and acidification (OA) are expected to interactively impact key phytoplankton groups such as diatoms, but the underlying mechanisms, particularly under long-term acclimation, remain poorly understood. In this study, we investigated the responses of the toxic diatom Pseudo-nitzschia multiseries to combined changes in temperature (20 °C and 30 °C) and CO concentration (pCO 400 μatm and 1000 μatm) using a multi-omics approach over an acclimation period of at least 251 generations. Physiological data suggest that elevated temperature, either alone or in combination with CO, reduced the net photosynthesis and nitrate uptake rate, thus inhibiting P.

Background: In the treatment of central-type non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), sleeve lobectomy (SL) has emerged as the surgical treatment of choice over pneumonectomy (PN). This retrospective study evaluates the clinical profiles and prognostic elements impacting survival and recurrence rates in patients who underwent SL.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 288 patients who underwent SL from January 2010 to December 2023.

Postpartum depression and postpartum depression with anxiety, which are highly prevalent and debilitating disorders, become a growing public concern. The high overlap on the symptomatic and neurobiological levels led to ongoing debates about their diagnostic and neurobiological uniqueness. Delineating the shared and disorder-specific intrinsic functional connectivities and their causal interactions is fundamental to precision diagnosis and treatment.

The cross-linking sites and structure of protein-polyphenol complexes are susceptible to the type, structure, weight of polyphenols under nonthermal process. The low bioavailability and poor gastrointestinal instability of curcumin (CUR) hampers its application. Hence, changes in binding mechanism, structural and functional properties between β-lactoglobulin (β-LG) with two different configurations of chlorogenic acids (neochlorogenic acids (3-CQA) and cryptochlorogenic acids (4-CQA) by non-covalent binding under ultrasonic treatment, and the potential capacity for loading CUR were researched.

The failure to remyelinate demyelinated axons poses a significant challenge in the treatment of multiple sclerosis (MS), a chronic inflammatory demyelinating disease of the central nervous system. Here, we investigated the role of Hedgehog (Hh) signaling in myelin formation during development and under pathological conditions. Using conditional gain-of-function analyses, we found that hyperactivation of Hh signaling in oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs) inhibits oligodendrocyte (OL) differentiation and myelination.
